love with food deluxe box october 2015 box

Love with Food‘s theme for October was Touchdown Treats and the box featured snacks perfect for snacking smart on the field or in front of the TV! This is a fun snack discovery subscription available in three versions: classic tasting box, deluxe/family size, and gluten-free. We purchase the Deluxe box, because we have a big family and more snacks = more fun!

This month Love With Food partnered with world champion pro football player Steve Weatherford, a firm believer in healthier diet choices and raising awareness of child hunger. Who better to represent a snack box perfect for the big game AND snacking smart? This month, with Steve, you helped donate to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey.

The information booklet contains both the ingredients for each item plus color-coded keys indicating which are non-GMO, gluten-free, and vegan!  Though they offer a Gluten-free box, it’s nice to have this kind of info handily started for households with mixed dietary profiles.

Everything in the October Deluxe box!

Original Crackers by Beecher’s Handmade Cheese: There were three or four big flat crackers per pack, and 2 packs in my box. The cheese flavor wasn’t super strong, but it was authentic. I kept on sneaking another cracker until they were all gone!  I have seen this cheese shop – in the Seattle airport! They claim to have the world’s best mac & cheese, but I can’t recall testing that claim 🙁

Crunchy Energizing Bites by Frontier Snacks (Deluxe Only): Almond Blueberry Lomon and Macadamia Pineapple Coconut! I’ve tried these before in a few boxes (they’re very similar to the NatureBox snacks) and they are great. I saved them for on the go and I’m really excited to try the Macadamia one – that’s new to me and I love tropical flavors.

Chewie Fruities Assorted Flavors by Torie and Howard: Just like Starburst, except naturally and organically sweetened and colored!

Chocolate Salted Caramel Protein Bar by LUNA: I also saved these for on the go, so I don’t have a photo of their insides, but they have a creamy nougat with salted caramel chunks inside, and the whole thing is covered with chocolate! They have 12 grams of protein each, and I may buy another box of these for the desk. Can you tell where I eat most of my food?

Home Cooked Salted Virginia Peanuts by Hubs: I love Virginia peanuts! Hubs makes great ones and this little pack is perfect for a great balanced snack. Yummy.

Cookies & Cream Wafer Bites by Dolcetto: These were so good it was wrong.  Seriously, it was like an Oreo except a million times better with the crisp shell and the great creamy insides. I am really tempted to buy more on the Love with Food site. Really tempted.

Maple Waffle Crisps by Mrs. Thinster’s (Deluxe Only): These were a nice surprise, because the last time LWF sent out waffle crisps they were heinous (as in even the children wouldn’t eat them!). These were not only sweet and delicious, they’re made with no artificial ingredients or corn syrup and are non-GMO.

Crunchy Sunflower Seed Bites by Somersault Snacks: These are some of my absolute favorite snacks! I do not buy them that often because they’re so addictive, but I love them. I was surprised to see that their branding had changed entirely. Not a bad thing! I have loved every flavor I’ve tried but these are two of the standards!

Fruit Crisps by Brothers All-Natural – Asian Pairs: We love freeze-dried fruits at our house. I don’t really care for Asian pears all that much but the freeze-drying process totally transformed them into a sweeter, lighter fruit and the real flavor truly came out. I wondered if I have only eaten slightly unripe Asian pears before?

Sea Salt Sweet Corn Tortilla Chips by Off the Cob (Deluxe Only):  I wasn’t crazy about these. They’re made with sweet corn and sweetened with cane sugar. They were basically an extra sweet corn chip with a sort of funny texture.

Buffalo Style Real Chicken Jerky by Chef’s Cut: So I was so excited by this box – it was packed with really amazing treats – and then I got to the bottom and my face fell. Chicken jerky? I have a thing about it. I made myself try it anyways and I am absolutely in love with it. It’s like portable boneless chicken wings and now my husband is emphatically not allowed to touch my chicken jerky.

After a sort of meh September, the October 2015 Love With Food box was my favorite of all time! We didn’t get the Cheddar and Pepper Premium Puffed Corn by Cosmos Creations that was in the regular box, but I feel less complainy about that this month since everything was so fantastic!

Reading the label on the cracker packages, I think these aren’t meant to be cheese flavored but rather to use with cheese. They’re certainly substantial enough to stand up to stronger cheeses, which is how I ate some of mine. Very tasty!

Unlike you, I wasn’t fond of the chicken jerky. But I don’t care for buffalo seasoning anyway. It was clearly quality cuts of chicken breast (which dries out easily, explaining part of why I don’t think it really makes good jerky). For spicy poultry jerky, I like the Perky Jerky Jamaican turkey one myself. But that’s just me.

Wish I’d gotten the Asian pear dried fruits. I got the strawberry & banana ones, 2 fruits I don’t really like. Oh well.

And you’re right about the little Dolcetto things – those would be dangerous to buy in quantity! Yummy indeed.
