GreekPack is a new monthly subscription box sending you the best of Greece! Every month you’ll get 6-8 new Greek goodies sent straight from Greece. There is no announced theme for the boxes, other than the popularity or reverence for the contents in Greece.
The box is still not fancy, but this month it was a sturdier-style of cardboard than in months past. You always get some cancelled Greek stamps on the outer wrapper, and the interior is cushioned with blue tissue.
The info card is double-sided and has a fair bit of background on the items. It is, of course, decorated in classic Greek blue and white and bordered by a meandros.
The other side of the card has the details on each of the other items in the box.
Everything in the October box. Past boxes have had some unusual items (a pile of whole-plant ironwork tea; an entire briki set), but this month is more in the mold of a traditional snack box.
Lay’s Oregano Potato Chips: The chips are structurally the same as the familiar American classics, but the flavor is distinctly Greek. (BTW,I love that the Greek word is phonetically ‘regano, like ‘Merica, seemingly conveying a sense of cultural fundamentalism). It is bright and herbaceous, with a cleaner and more natural flavor profile than common potato ship flavors.
Krokus Kozanis Beverage (Saffron Tea): Saffron is expensive and highly-prized throughout the world. This tea uses an especially fine quality of saffron grown outside of Kozani, in the north of Greece.
Papadoulous Digestive Bar: Bits of orange flavor this crispy bar, intended to deliver a healthy dose of fiber. An entire side of the bar is covered by a dark and thick chocolate slab.
Energy Bar with Oat and Strawberry: This sweet and chewy bar reminds me of a paleo product. It is a bit crumbly, but has a great strawberry and oat flavor.
Fedon Apple Pie: The filling is a sweet and lightly-spiced apple jam. The crust is like the cake on the outside of a Newton, rather than a pastry.
ChocoFreta: A Greek take on the classic wafer cookie. The crisp inside is layered with chocolate cream, and the entire bar is coated in a thin layer of flaky chocolate.
This month’s Greek Pack followed the standard subscription snack template more closely than it has in the past, providing individually-packaged snacks as they would appear in Greek shops. It provides a great sampling of Greek treats, and it shines a light on a region that tends to remain underrepresented in the snack subscription world. We wish the value was a little better though (we didn’t do a complete breakdown) and we suspect that part of the issue may be a low subscriber count – it’s a little hard to see where to subscribe, you have to scroll down the home page (there’s no subscribe link in the top bar).
