Menswear Club Subscription Box Review – October 2015

The Menswear Club is a monthly men’s subscription box with 5-6 full-size grooming products as well as menswear accessories.  Subscribers can expect hair pomade, combs, beard oil, face lotion & cleanser, aftershave, shaving cream, socks, ties, pocket squares, tie clips, and more.

It looks like this is their first box, and honestly we are a bit confused, because we’ve seen several entirely different October boxes but some of the contents overlap with the “previous boxes” on their site. They mentioned to us that subscribers receive emails on their box contents.  Confusion aside, let’s assume that this is a standard box and not something special cooked up for us.

The box itself has a great design and is really well put together.  It’s hip and classy, and the combination of items follows the formula established by the tried and true men’s style boxes.

Everything in the box.  A couple fashion items, a pair of grooming finds, and an accessory.

HUE Pomade ($22):  The value on this item surprises me a bit — it is a big can of quality stuff, but men’s products are usually not so readily premium-priced.  That said, it has a nice feel to it.  The fragrance is light and quite nice; nothing that will interfere with your other grooming products.  The texture also also avoids the oiliness that sometimes affects pomades.

Dr. Squatch Soap Co Gold Moss Scrub ($6):  The mascot may be a bit silly, but the branding is fitting and memorable.  I have seen and tried this brand several times, and I absolutely love the scent.  Gold Moss describes it well: earthy and a tad musky, with a tiny hint of sandalwood/patchouli-type essence.

Happy Socks Fern Socks ($12):  Soft combed cotton was used to create these stylish socks, making them cozy and comfy.  I like the simple simple pattern.  It is placid and has a traditional feel.

Proof Wood Wallet ($20):  Made from durable zebra wood, this wallet is fairly compact and very light.  It will hold several cards and a bit of cash — actually, you’ll want to carry at least three cards (ID, credit, etc), because they fall out of the curved slot if you have less than three.

Skinny Tie Madness Plaid “Swallow My Pride” Bow Tie ($29) This fine crafted, durable Bow Tie is 100% cotton, and 2.5 inches collar height.  The length is adjustable, and it features a handsome red/blue/white/green pattern.  

Not too shabby for a first attempt.

The Menswear Club put together a nicely balanced box, covering fashion, grooming, and accessory.  The grooming items were nice, quality selections, and I give bonus points for the matching of the tie and socks!  Very similar to Sprezza and Gentlemen’s Box, and a little more expensive.  I will have to keep an eye on this subscription to see how it develops and to get a sense of the recurring value.
