The Demon Notebook by Erika McGann ($6.99)

For Grace and her four best friends, magic is just harmless fun-until it’s not…

Things have gone wrong for Grace, Jenny, Rachel, Adie, and Una. Very wrong. A freak snowstorm stranded the whole school, the history teacher’s gone bonkers, and their notebook has taken on a diabolical life of its own, bringing all of their previously failed spells to life. At first the girls are thrilled to see their magic finally working.

But the spells are botched and people might get hurt and Una’s not acting quite right…

Can the girls stop the madness before the demon notebook works through their list of spells, slowly creeping towards the last, truly awful spell that they didn’t really want to happen?

Winner of the Waverton Good Read Children’s Award for best debut novel.

This book is rated for ages 9+, and I would say that’s right with the spooky theme. My daughter is almost 7 and enjoys spooky, and she will love this book. The entire first chapter is actually on Amazon if you want to get a better idea of the reading level of this subscription.

We also got a pack of Nerds, a mummy stamp, a brain eraser, a zombie pencil sharpener, and 2 Smencils ($3).

Smencils are the best scented pencil there is (they started showing up in girls’ subscriptions a few months ago) and my kids love them!

Studio Series Blank Book ($5.99) This couldn’t have come at a better time, because my daughter’s current writing goal in school is to make her own chapter book.

They are working on goal-setting (although as far as I can tell haven’t taught them about breaking down projects, brainstorming, storyboarding, or outlining, so…. we’ll be teaching that at home), and that’s the goal she selected.  She is always stealing my printer paper, so this is perfect.

Plus a fun Lit-Cube Junior Book bag! I know what we’re taking to the library next time!

This is a fun subscription that we enjoy purchasing for our daughter. We’re definitely library patrons but there is absolutely something special about getting a themed monthly package with all the doo-dads to make it even more exciting. I’m still waiting to hear about November Lit-Cute Jr. spoilers, but if I had to guess, I’m betting it will be Thanksgiving.
