September 2015 Moustache Coffee Club Subscription Review + Free Trial Bag

Another great coffee from Moustache! Moustache Coffee Club is one of the most consistent and enjoyable coffee subscriptions I’ve had.  Moustache Coffee Club  is a coffee subscription box featuring freshly roasted single origin beans that are shipped the day they are roasted.  They feature certain roasters that appear quite frequently, but with different offerings (and always good quality).  This batch featured Lord Windsor Roasters, with a truly unique Finca San Serapio from Santa Rosa, Guatemala.

Moustache Coffee Club offers several different plans, depending on your coffee demands, as few as a bag a month to as many as one five-pound bag every week.  You can get your first bag free by signing up. You may cancel anytime and if you don’t like the coffee you can get a refund or double the coffee.  I have not yet had to use their refund policy.

  Moustache just recently debuted new bags to keep the beans fresher.  The top is resealable, and I like that all the relevant info for the coffee is right on the bag.  It’s too hard to cross-reference info cards, etc, before the first cup of the day.

Though I like having the relevant info right on the bag, the additional info card does provide a nice intro to the coffee. In this case it was a “gorgeous honey light roast featuring a fabulous balance of high fruity notes of cherry cola, and a rich undercurrent of butterscotch.”  I find the tasting notes and descriptions to be in accord with my own notes most of the time  — the crew at Moustache Coffee Club seems to have a good sense of what notes will stand out to the average palate, not indulging too heavily in minutia that are not detectable to most.

The roast was just dark enough to have allowed a nice development of the fruit and sweet flavors with sacrificing the brightness of the bean.  The honey processing really shows its value in this coffee —  The pulpy, fruity cherry and light, sweet cola really shine, and the base is a smooth, mellow butterscotch.  A very juicy and approachable coffee with an unusual flavor profile that will nonetheless conform to the sensibilities of even non-adventurous coffee-drinkers.
