I loved the look of this one when I opened it because of the nice towels on the top.  Everything else is safely nestled below the squiggles.

Everything in the September box.  Though it’s called French Kitchen Essentials, the durable items are really essentials for any kitchen, no matter the fare.

The information booklet has a new updated look and we love the booklet form – it’s sturdier and great to keep the recipes!

However, I didn’t love being redirected to the website for recipes. The cassoulet is the one I was interested in cooking.  There were many in the booklet, though, and they comprised the who’s who of French classics:  Coq au Vin, Ratatouille, Nicosia salad.

It also contains complete information on every item.

I should also mention that all the items are packed securely together!  They managed to create a nice looking presentation for the top of the box, and they get high marks for bundling everything else so it didn’t get banged up in transit.

Sel Magique Fleur de Sel Aux Herbs de Provence ($9.50) Two vials of hand-harvested fleur de sel with a blend of lavender, thyme, savory, and marjoram. Lovely flavors and the individual vials will keep them fresh.

La Moutarderie Fallot Moutarde de Dijon ($6) This dijon is prepared by traditional methods – high quality mustard seeds are hand selected and ground on a stone mill!  This one packs quite a punch!! Since the Dijon goes much further than regular yellow or brown mustard, I expect this jar to contribute to quite a few dishes.

North Bay Trading Co. French Green Lentils ($4.27) I love lentils of all kinds, but French lentils are particularly nice for making sides and casseroles! The French kind hold their shape extremely well, and I’m looking forward to trying them in 2 of my favorite lentil recipes (which are 2 of my favorite recipes, period!).

The Original Paris u’Select Chocolate Peppermill (with peppercorns) ($37) This is wonderful because unbelievably, I didn’t have a peppermill! And I love pepper!  This has an adjustable grind and it cracks and then grinds the pepper for the best release of flavor.

The design is quite lovely and looks like a chess piece — our current pepper mills are now going to be consigned to the kid’s table.  Pretty much any cuisine benefits from a bit of pepper, so this fella is going to be very busy.

I am strongly considering the purchase of the matching salt grinder.  Subscribers could choose to add it on to their boxes.

Vintage Style French Torchons (Tea Towels) ($15) These are great quality and I love the band around the edge. They also have a nice hanging loop if you prefer to hang them with a hook or post, and that’s a really nice touch!

We thought the items in the Hamptons Lane French Kitchen Essentials box were of particularly high quality this month. The box had around a $72 value and we’re definitely looking forward to working in some of these new tools to our kitchen. We did wish that they didn’t skip the lentil recipes in the booklet though. We’re lentil fans and we were really looking forward to seeing the recipes for the featured item.

You stated that you never owned a peppermill and later you said your old ones are being relegated to the kids table. Which is correct? and do the kids have to sit at a separate table when you eat? I would not be asking but you brought it up. I am not trying to be cute or rude I just want to know what I am reading is the truth.

My husband meant our Tupperware salt and pepper shakers. And we eat as a family. I think he meant to leave on the island, where the kids usually eat lunch.

Thanks for the information. I am a Virgo and everything needs to be black or white. There is no gray in my life.

Here’s what my husband says. It’s a clever double entendre. Junior league. Second tier. Also, literally reserved for kids use. I actually debated what word to use instead of mill, but left it bc our things are mill shaped and “tub” wasn’t right.

      Hope this helps.
