I love my MoustacheMoustache Coffee Club is one of the most consistent and enjoyable coffee subscriptions I’ve had.  Moustache Coffee Club  is a coffee subscription box featuring freshly roasted single origin beans that are shipped the day they are roasted.  They feature certain roasters that appear quite frequently, but with different offerings (and always good quality).  This batch featured Moustache first-timers, Copa Vida, with their take on a Konga coffee from the Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia.

Moustache Coffee Club offers several different plans, depending on your coffee demands, as few as a bag a month to as many as one five-pound bag every week.  You can get your first bag free by signing up. You may cancel anytime and if you don’t like the coffee you can get a refund or double the coffee.  I have not yet had to use their refund policy.

IMG_6306  Moustache just recently debuted new bags to keep the beans fresher.  The top is resealable, and I like that all the relevant info for the coffee is right on the bag.  It’s too hard to cross-reference info cards, etc, before the first cup of the day.

Though I like having the relevant info right on the bag, the additional info card does provide a nice intro to the coffee. In this case it was a “thesis in balanced complexity.”

I love it when tasting notes describe the flavor as “stone fruit,” since coffee itself is a stone fruit (drupe)!  Anyway, I assume they mean to reference the general juicy and sweet character of peaches, cherries, and the like — and there is a bit of that here.  The “champagne” descriptor is quite fitting, as there is the tiniest bit of sour in the beans that almost bubbles at the tip of your tongue, and subdued yeasty and winey tones emerge from the fruity and juicy body.  This is a well balanced cup — it has the qualities I would expect in a typical Yirgacheffe, but the champagne and accompanying flavors substitute for what would normally be floral notes.  The overall character of the coffee is mellow and smooth, and there are no bolds or bitters to be found.  Copa Vida pushed the roast a little farther than I have seen other Moustache roasters do with Ethiopians, and I think it served the beans well, tamping down some of the high floral notes that would have hijacked the unique champagne notes.  A very nice cup — I could see serving it to guests and having them inquire, “this is good, what is it?”, because it is truly unique and truly delicious.

I had a legacy 6 oz every other week subscription so I’ve switched my subscription to a full bag every other week.  This subscription is really one of my favorites.
