Kidable Adventures Little Thinker Box is a preschool subscription box for ages 3-6.  The Little Thinker Box includes four components: Read, Create, Explore, and Learn. The Learn component is divided into three different levels: Head Start, PreK, and Kindergarten. Choose the level that’s right for your child!

The theme for the month is Design It, Build It!

All the actual instructions plus the parental guidance is included, along with all the supplies! The Read, Create, Explore, and Learn format is a new design, and is based on customer and expert feedback.  This edition had combined Create and Explore elements that shared materials.  We take the packs apart for photos, but each is packaged separately, which is great for spreading this box out over your month.

Read

This month’s book was Jack the Builder, part of the MathStart Series. The “Read” segment includes a guide for directed reading.  It gives tips on keeping your child engaged in the story and develops their reading comprehension skills. This particular book was perfect for this month – it emphasized counting while building a tower.

Create & Explore

The “Create” segment involves a fun craft activity, and the “Explore” segment allows for creative play and lets the kids use their imaginations.   This month combined the two in a single mega-session!  A variety of building materials were included, so the kids had lots of options.

The kids were challenged to design and build the improvements that would be needed to restore access and services to ta disaster-stricken town.  Planning the project was the first step.  Anyone here know how to read blue prints?

The peanuts connect readily with round toothpicks — flat toothpicks were also included for parents that want a less pointy option for their child.

The bridge is complete!  The peanuts can also be stuck directly together with a smidge of water.

A second, more elaborate attempt using the peanuts and picks.

Learn

little thinker box august 2015 IMG_7960The “Learn” section had us making shapes and letters, counting blocks, and sorting by color.  This activity sheet can be spread out over a great deal of time, since 26 letters and 10 numerals makes for a lot of building.

Yucking it up while making shapes with the craft sticks.

The number twelve!  Some shapes are awkward with the blocks, so a printed (partial) guide is provided.

Tracing letters for fine motor coordination and reinforcing memorization.

They also threw in a little something extra for Mom.  Mango Tango Soap!

We loved this box and all the updates! The new format is solidly organized and well-planned, the mom gift is a sweet touch, and most importantly our preschooler was engaged and thinking the whole time we were doing the activities.  We always like to note – reviewers tend to do everything at once, because we have to – but this box is designed to provide activities over the course of the month.  The combined Create and Explore elements seemed appropriate this month, and I don’t think it reduced the amount of activity you get out of the box.  The blocks and straw kit could certainly be reused for other building projects, too.

The next theme is:

M is for Monsters!
