Level Up by Loot Crate Subscription Box Review – August 2015 #lvlup

Level Up  is a new subscription from Loot Crate to get great new geek and gamer premium wearable accessories themed along with the current Loot Crate theme. There are 3 options: 2 pairs of themed socks for $9.9, 1 or 2 fashion accessories for lady looters (hairbow, cosmetics, jewelry) for $14.99, and a wearable item like a premium shirt or hat for $14.99.  Unlike their beta month, You can purchase Level Up separately now – and the wearable items (the shirts/hats/etc) are available in ladies’ sizes. Oh one more thing – I haven’t really been sure about the spelling on the name of this box – is it Lvl Up or Level Up? The Hashtag and branding uses LVL Up, the site says Level Up, who knows!

The information card contains the details on all the items. I thought the Polo description was funny.

Socks:

We don’t get the socks! This month they were Bioworld Reverse Flash Socks and Bioworld Skeletor Socks. You can see them on the card above.

Accessories:

Bioworld DC Comics Bombshells Poison Ivy Hair Bow: While I don’t think Loot Crate promises that these items will be exclusives, I can’t find them online. They may be the first outlet for these items though, and that’s pretty neat. This is cute and fun, but it’s a tad hard to see the design. I’d say I’d let my daughter wear it, but the Bombshells line isn’t exactly school appropriate! (See the Poison Ivy Statute).

Bioworld DC Comics Bombshells Harley Quinn Travel Bag: it’s really great to see the DC Comics deal with Loot Crate turning out some neat items like this! This is a toiletries travel bag – tuck them all in, zip it up, and when you’re in the hotel room, just hang it on the towel bar in the bathroom. I’ll take this on our Disney trip!

Wearable:

Super 7 Jabba the Hutt Polo Shirt ($45) This is a funny take on the traditional Lacoste Alligator. Unfortunately, our shirt is defective, and it doesn’t seem like this is a one-time thing (see this review of the same shirt – different problem).

The wrinkles are from the shirt being sewn incorrectly, not how we laid it down, and Jabba is crooked. He’s very clearly straight in the information card. What a bummer, but also – very cool to get a high value shirt that can “pass” in the workplace.

For the first time I was disappointed in Loot Crate (but they redeemed themselves with their service). Our box shipped very late this month due to a “warehouse problem.” It arrived priority mail a couple days later. They are replacing the shirt too and are now investigating the problem with our shirt with their vendor. I was pleased with that resolution. However, I wish that this subscription was skippable! I purchased a three month subscription and honestly probably would have skipped Villains – it’s just not my theme – to save for another month. You can probably manage that issue by only subscribing if you like the theme and then canceling every time, but that’s a real PITA.
