benko box august 2015 box

Benko Box is a monthly arts and craft subscription box for toddlers, preschoolers, and school aged kids!  This box is about creative process, not about completing a pre-determined craft, so it’s great for open-ended sensory exploration of color, texture, techniques, and more!

This box came with a ton of art supplies packed into one little box!

The theme for August is Land and Sea and the information card contains details on the “Imagination Ingredients” included!

The back of the card details an activity highlight – an idea of what you can do with your items!

My daughter helped me open this box and she was really excited about everything inside. There were stickers, seashells, and foam stickers. The card had the idea to decorate the seashells!

There were two plastic stencils and also a watercolor spray paint!  This is a really cool item, and from what I can tell every box includes a new, fun, and unique art media or tool for kids.

Markers and colored pencils! Each of these is great for making kid art!

Colored paper, a little pot, and watercolor paper. I thought the watercolor paper was a really nice touch and will let us explore some of the great results you can get with the watercolor paint spray.

My daughter created this one with the supplies we left on the table. We figured it was free form, so we let them have at it.

He used the lobster stencil, although it’s difficult to see. He was super proud of it though. Then he added tons of stickers – his favorite.

And attempted stenciling as well!

More stenciling! It must be his new favorite technique.

We followed the ideas on the card to add stickers to the pot, then sprayed it with the paint to create a reverse decoration.

We had a lot of fun with that watercolor spray paint! We experimented with the stencils, with the leftovers from the stickers, absolutely everything.  My children enjoyed this low-key open-ended art project, and there are still tons of supplies left to create more. This would be perfect to have a new batch of art supplies without stocking your home with too many.  About half the supplies weren’t consumables (or weren’t quickly consumed) – like the stencils, colored pencils, and markers. I thought that was great to have those supplies still around even after the projects were complete!
