CMYfabriK Box is a monthly sewing or fabric craft subscription box. You can choose the Sew or No Sew option. Every month you’ll receive a box with custom fabric, supplies, and instructions for that month’s fabric craft project. Fun goodies like cute washi tape, baker’s twine, and thread are also included. In your first month you’ll get a basic sewing kit that includes a measuring tape, pins, scissors, needles, and a seam ripper – useful whether or not you choose to sew your project.
The directions on the box lid say “Check out our YouTube Channel for your project tutorial!” Not being tech savvy, I wasn’t sure where to check, I tried “Let’s Get Craftin’, A Stitichin’ Good Time!’ and finally “CMY Fabrik box.” A little more direction would have been nice.
Everything in the July box! The box includes a half yard of fabric, but we’ll get to that after the goodies. Also in the box were a measuring tape, a pretty metallic washi tape, and baker’s twine, along with a button for the project and red thread.
A cute pincushion and colorful pins were included.
Also in the box – a mini fabric pouch, seam ripper, thread snips, and some milliner needles.
The project for July was a lunch bag with video tutorial. There is a new fabric design each month, along with a new project!
At the beginning of the tutorial the young lady is shown saying “are you ready for a stitchin’ good time mother f—–,” of course the f bomb is bleeped out. This craft box would be very good to sell to kids just learning to sew, so that kind of language even bleeped out has no place on this tutorial. [Note from Brandy: CMYfabriK says that their demographic doesn’t include kids and teens. My opinion is that it certainly could and I don’t see any reason to include the F word in a tutorial, there are plenty of women who are in this demographic and don’t like curse words and I would say that it was a surprise. I’m the kind of person who would embroider it on anything. You can see the tutorial in the video below. ]

There wasn’t really any sort of pattern or written instructions, just information in the video tutorial on how large to cut the pieces and how to sew them together. I didn’t have any difficulty with this but inexperienced sewers might have problems following a video or need to pause and rewind frequently. I think a video plus written instructions would be best.

The fabric is really cute and trendy and custom designed for the box. I already have an idea of what I’m going to use the scraps for!
This was a nice little project, quick and easy. I substituted my own button. For beginners, I’d suggest skipping the top stitch, that’s for someone with more experience. Overall this is a good craft for any level of expertise for sewing and I am looking forward to the next craft. There is also a no-sew version of this box, which comes with glue to complete your fabric project (which is the same project). It will be interesting to see what projects (and perhaps written instructions!) they have in the future, and the fabric was a really great design.

I subscribed and just received the September box. I’m disappointed! The materials are cheap and unappealing, so is the packing. The thread doesn’t match the main fabric or the accent. The fabric is not pretty or elegant or cute. If it wasn’t for the beginner sewing kit, I would be crying bitter tears over the wasted money on this. I could get the month’s supplies for $5-6 at a craft store. I so wanted to like this but do not.
