Birchbox Upgrade Box August 2015 Review + Free Tote Gift with Subscription!

Birchbox now offers an option for an extra $20 per month to get 2 full-size products in addition to your regular box. Birchbox is normally $10 a month, plus you accumulate points after reviewing the items in your box! You’ll get 10 points per item reviewed, and 100 points are equal to $10 in the shop.

The upgrade items arrived in a separate box again.

Marcelle Eye Shadow Duo – Dirty Martini ($16) I really wish this had been a quad like it says in my account! This is really highly pigmented shadow, and there’s a lot of it! It does include little eyeshadow applicators in the bottom, which is a nice touch.

Eyeko Eye Do Mascara ($26) Birchbox insists on sending a new mascara for an upgrade item every. single. month. It’s got to stop. I didn’t bother to open this one because I dislike Eyeko mascara!

I am pretty frustrated with the upgrade choices. I can’t see how anyone wants a new full size mascara every month – and what they are thinking by putting one in monthly!

The rest of the box looks exactly like usual – but I’m starting to suspect everyone that gets an upgrade box gets the same box, which begs the question of why they bother sending the extra items in an extra box.

The information card. Same size, it just goes lengthwise. Once again the regular card had a different font for the product names than usual, but not this one. How has nobody noticed this but me?

Crabtree & Evelyn Gardeners Ultra-Moisturizing Hand Therapy ($5) This is really moisturizing, and it smells like aftershave or a crunchy earthy lotion depending on your perspective – it includes myrrh extract! Totally non-greasy and very nice – a great contrast to typical florals.

IPKN Pore Apple Sun Cream ($2.80) This is a great item! A really nice and light sun lotion with a fantastic appley smell! Even though it says New York on it, it’s really made in Korea – Birchbox is really bringing in quite a few K-beauty items to their shop!

Laqa & Co Cheeky Lip – Cray Cray ($6.67) Works as both cheek & lip color! While this one looks good on my cheeks, it doesn’t on my lips, so I’ll keep it for giving a nice glowy face!COOLA SPF 30 Organic Makeup Setting Spray ($7.2) I was super excited to see this in my box – I saw it at Birchbox Soho and I really wanted to grab one!

Dr. Jart+ Dermask Vital Hydra Solution Deep Hydration Sheet Mask ($6) This mask is designed to really rehydrate your skin and keep it smooth and glowing. Full size!

My August 2015 upgrade Birchbox had $42 in the 2 upgrade items and about $28 in the rest of the box – around $70 total. I was really quite excited about the Coola, and it was nice to see Birchbox mixing up the brands by adding more Korean beauty products – now if they can only mix up the types of upgrade items!
