The June Koala Crate theme was Ocean! Koala Crate is a monthly subscription box from KiwiCo for preschoolers ages 3 to 4. Koala Crate was created to encourage hands-on learning and fun. Activities are designed to be developmentally appropriate and enriching while also engaging, fun, and universally appealing.
A Koala Crate box comes with a variety of supplies to create a project, perform activities, and fun games, all geared for preschool.
There are two books that will come in your Koala Crate. Imagine! magazine is “a play and learn magazine” made for you and your preschooler to explore together. My son loves it!
There’s a fun story to help introduce your child to the theme of the box.
The activities are a little more difficult and there are more critical thinking activities in the magazine than there were when the box started. We are happy with that choice!
Our four year old has fun doing on the puzzles, and our 6 year old helps him with the reading parts!
The second booklet is the instructions & inspiration book. This gives an overview of all the items in the crate, the 3 primary activities, and the messiness level and required grownup assistance needed. Every activity tells you the required materials, engagement questions to ask your child, step by step instructions, and play ideas.
watercolor fish. The first project was a watercolor fish project. I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned it, but the projects pretty much go in order! For this one E took the die cut fish and created designs on them using the supplied markers.
And then we sprayed them with water to create the watercolor design! The paper is diffusion paper so the water spreads easily. After they dried E decorated them with the included eyes and sparkles.
fishing game. The next project we assembled a fishing hook and pasted our fish onto blue papers, which got turned into hookable fish! He had a lot of fun with this game and I’ve found him “fishing” multiple times since we finished the box!
sea creatures puzzle. This was an unusual puzzle – all the pieces are sea creature shaped! He loved this one, and then we traced the creatures on the special paper they sent and made more watercolor animals. The puzzle is reusable as a bath toy – they stick on the wall!
A fantastic and fun month, and not frustrating for this age level. My son loved the coloring and spray activity, and both kids had a blast “fishing” with the finished products! The amount of coloring and assembly is less in this box, which my son likes. He always gets excited about this subscription – he knows it’s just for him!
