Each recipe clearly lays out the ingredients and tools needed, plus the kitchen skills your child will develop. The instructions are step-by-step and contain notes for adult helpers. In addition to the recipe, there’s educational cooking information, as well as extension activities with each recipe (word scrambles, etc and other fun activities!).

You will always get 2 kid-sized tools and one special ingredient in every box! This month had strawberry pomegranate caffeine free herbal tea, a veggie peeler, and an ice cream scoop!

kidstir july 2015 shake

We like to make at least one recipe for every box for the blog, and the choice for my kids was hands down the s’more shake!

I got the kids to work on graham cracker crumbs while I made the shake.

They loved this part!IMG_2510

The marshmallows didn’t come off the parchment very cleanly – next time we’ll try it on a silicone baking pan – we think they will be a good idea for cobblestones for gingerbread houses, so we’ll try the toasting under the broiler trick again!

We also made the tea – there were still a bunch of teabags left over after we made our yummy drink, too!

The kids had a little tea party. They weren’t in the photo, but it involved Elsa and Iron Patriot, too. (They set this up themselves and took their own photo.)

We love this subscription! It gets my kids to try something new and we always have a great time together in the kitchen.
