bombfell july 2015 boxBombfell has picked out some decent BBQ-worthy (read: mid-upscale casual) clothes for me as we roll through the Summer.  Bombfell is a men’s clothing and personal styling subscription service. You get sent the clothing, can try it on at home, and then figure out what you love and want to purchase. It’s an excellent service for a busy guy. For this delivery I opted for 4 surprise iittems “For the Weekend.”

bombfell july 2015 open

Everything arrives nicely bundled.  They throw in a Simpson’s themed snap bracelet, which my kid promptly stole.  It features Ralph Wiggum with, you guessed it, his finger up his nose.

When shipped in a box, everything comes separately bagged to keep it nice.

bombfell july 2015 receipt

Every box comes with a return label.  As you can see from the receipt, the clothing is not bargain-basement priced.  The idea is you keep only what you love — usually you end up with 1-3 of the pieces finding a home in your closet (the remainder not making the cut) — so your overall spend is often not the total of the item prices.  This month, we did notice that some items showed up elsewhere online for half the price.  While curation is nice, that is a bit of a premium to pay for the service especially when you can return for free and buy it online.

bombfell july 2015 halsey shorts

Halsey Cutter Knee Length Shorts ($98):  These are my keeper item.  They are a classic light tan khaki short with a relaxed feel.  The fabric has a nice “lived-in” quality to it — it is soft and, while it has no discernible wear spots, it lacks the fresh-off-the bolt look that is the hallmark of cheap clothes.

bombfell july 2015 shorts back

The back is simple with button-loop closure pockets.

bombfell july 2015 grayers

Grayers Shadow Gingham Shirt ($72.50 – $39.97 at Nordstrom Rack):  This shirt is a nice classic “tablecloth” checker pattern in grey tones.  I was sent a medium size, though I think my profile is set at large.  If I could have it in the right size, I would keep the shirt, especially if consideration was given to the competitor pricing.

bombfell july 2015 ben sherman

Ben Sherman Easy Plaid Soho Fit Shirt ($75): My favorite shirt of the bunch on looks.  I like the pattern, shade of blue, and the extra different-colored liner on the interior of the shoulders.  This came in large, but the slim-fit is not working for me.  I’m not sure if the shoulders measure differently between slim and regular, or if its just the waist portion that changes.  I felt like Dwayne Johnson must feel when buying off the rack — the shoulders and chest are just to tight for me in this cut.  This would be a keeper if the fit were better.

bombfell july 2015 tailor vintage

Tailor Vintage Wave Stripe Linen Popover Shirt ($60 – $36.30 on Amazon):  This one does not work for me.  I received a size small (?) for some reason.  Because it is a pull-over, I can’t even get my shoulders into it — which is for the best, since it would look like an obscene tube-top if I could.  I’m not crazy about the mixed (horizontal, no less) stripes, either.  This is the not-for-me piece of the box.

I’m not sure what happened with the sizing on this shipment.  I liked the styling of 3 of the 4 pieces, which is pretty typical.  Bombfell expects some items not to work out, and they are good about returns.  They are kindly looking into the price issue for me.  It won’t make a difference on this box, because the sizing is off.  I generally like the selections and expect to keep better than half of what I receive in a typical box.
