Yogi Surprise has a new jewelry+treat subscription box that I thought I’d check out. Every month you’ll get 2 handmade yoga-inspired jewelry piece and 1 superfood or organic chocolate treat (which they say will be vegan).
This month’s jewelry was inspired by the idea of helping balance body and spirit.
The jewelry comes in little cloth drawstring bags.
The information card explains the selections and gives the retail prices – FYI, I thought the MSRP on the jewelry was ludicrous.
All the items in the box.
Pearl Wisdom Mala ($115)
While these are fun pieces and it’s easy to justify in a $25 box (that includes chocolate), they in no way reach these suggested prices. A quick etsy search for pearl mala reveals that 100% freshwater pearl malas sell for about half that price. I think yoga practitioners would still enjoy these pieces, especially the bracelet, which I think is quite nice, but it’s silly to suggest that this is over $150 of jewelry.
Pure 7 Dark Bar ($6.99) I can’t believe this arrived unmelted! FYI I believe Yogi Surprise’s definition of vegan includes honey (that is, they will classify things as vegan even if it includes honey, which this does). Doesn’t bother me personally, but just a head’s up.
This is a raw chocolate bar so it’s grainier than normal bars are. I didn’t find it particularly fruity and was surprised to find cinnamon in the ingredients. I am also unsure about the description on their website, which refers to the slow roasting process of their beans. I hope someone who is into raw food will enlighten us.
So despite all this, I still think it’s a good box if you’re looking for fun yoga-inspired jewelry and a nice treat, just be aware that you’re not really getting $150 of jewelry and the treat may not be raw/vegan. (I think most people will find these acceptable, I just wanted to point them out!)
That being said, all the Yogi Surprise Jewelry is:
- Fairtrade
- Sustainably Harvested
- Nickle-free, Lead-free and Cadmium-free
- Made with love in Bali, Indonesia
- 10% of all proceeds are given to further education for the Balinese families who handmake our jewelry pieces.
I don’t have a problem paying for fair trade pieces, but the quality of the materials needs to be higher to support those kind of prices.

Am I like the only person whose chocolate arrived melted? I live in Georgia and it was in the mid-80s yesterday and my mailman shoved my package into my black, metal mailbox. Even after an hour inside, my chocolate bar was totally mush. I left it in the refrigerator overnight and it solidified, but it is not very pretty any longer.
