Kidable Adventures Little Thinker Box is a preschool subscription box. We love Kidable Adventures (they also make Doodlebug Busy Bags!) around here and we were excited to check out this box, because we hadn’t reviewed one in a while!

The Little Thinker Box is a monthly subscription service for children preparing to enter Pre-K or Kindergarten. Each month the child is sent a themed-based activity box that focuses on reading, writing, math, science, and other skills; using fun games, crafts, and experiments. The May 2015 theme was “Candy Shop.”

The box comes with a complete instruction sheet that guides you through the activities. FYI parents – no actual candy (Thank you!). Just a fun theme!

Gumball CountingIMG_1203

You used plastic tongs for this, which made it a little harder, and it was great for the kids to work on math and strengthening the hand muscles they need to write.

There was also a “gumball” toss carnival game! The kids had fun with this!IMG_1128

Money Fun – Can You Afford It? – Money sense is more important than ever (who uses cash?). I was really happy to see this activity. IMG_1209

Big sister helped him count out his money to buy the items.

Next up – Building the candy shop!

We made a cash register (the box came with all the glue dots we needed), and assembled everything.

We were absolutely thrilled with the result! IMG_1215

We determined that all truffles & lollipops cost $2 and everything else cost $1. She wrote the amounts on the order cards, and presented them to the “shopkeeper.”

He counted out the money, and discovered that someone was a dollar short! IMG_1217

She paid up and he fulfilled the order, placing all the candy in the bag.

This was just super pretend play, and everything fits right back into the box. This is an activity that we will keep for a long time, because the kids loved it. The box is relatively inexpensive and we got the preschool learning activities as well as the pretend play, so I thought it was an excellent value. It was creative and inventive and we couldn’t have asked for more. Loved this one!
