The May Koala Crate theme was CityScapes! Koala Crate is a monthly subscription box from KiwiCo for preschoolers ages 3 to 4. Koala Crate was created to encourage hands-on learning and fun. Activities are designed to be developmentally appropriate and enriching while also engaging, fun, and universally appealing.
A Koala Crate box comes with a variety of supplies to create a project, perform activities, and fun games, all geared for preschool.
There are two books that will come in your Koala Crate. The first is the instructions & inspiration book. This gives an overview of all the items in the crate, the 3 primary activities, and the messiness level and required grownup assistance needed.
Every activity tells you the required materials, engagement questions to ask your child, step by step instructions, and play ideas.
Imagine! magazine is “a play and learn magazine” made for you and your preschooler to explore together. My son loves it!
There’s a fun story to help introduce your child to the theme of the box. The kids were super into the story this month – and they totally noticed that there was a Steve the Kiwi plush doll!
What I didn’t notice was the movement activity, and I didn’t miss it, because I noticed that the activities were a little more difficult and there were more critical thinking activities in the magazine this month. I was happy with that choice!
He was so excited about the idea of building a city with boxes that he took all my boxes and built one! We had a great time doing it!
He usually has to solve all the puzzles first. This time he was so interested in the activities he stopped in the middle!
city building blocks: We placed the stickers on each side of all the blocks and built cities for a very long time!
These are a great keeper item!
stencil drawing bag. This was a lot of fun! We used stencils (and learned a new word – spouncing!) to create a nicely decorated bag to hold all the blocks in.
He was really very into this and did it as carefully as he could – great for fine motor coordination.
Tada! He created this all by himself!
skyline paintings. These were the reverse of the previous craft – place the stickers on the paper and spounce the paint on.
He did one, and his sister did one.
The blue paint was glittery and they turned out absolutely gorgeous. I kept these to frame and hang in our hallway. I thought they were really great! Although the two final crafts were similar, the guidance on each was different and they both held my son’s interest. I was really happy with this box because we had 3 separate items that were fun and engaging, but also left us with something to keep!
This was adorable! E was inspired by the painting and asked to paint this truck from a previous Koala Crate!
