Ivy Kids is a monthly subscription box for kids ages 3-8 providing tons of fun educationally focused activities from a certified early childhood educator. There are oodles of activities in every box, providing really an entire month of projects that will develop fine and gross motor muscles, build math and literacy skills, encourage reading comprehension, and promote scientific thinking.
This box has so many activities, just filled to the brim.
The June 2015 Ivy Kids Kit features the book Blueberries for Sal. We love this book and it’s fantastic to have so many extension activities based on one book. This box encompasses two age ranges: 3-5 (Little Ivy) and 5-8 (Junior Ivy). It’s also great to have a box that two kids can participate in.
All the supplies that were in my Ivy Kids kit. Each activity is separated by a plastic bag, making it easy to grab and go, and to keep things organized. This is really important with so many activities. (And there are a lot of activities in this box! We use a lot of pictures for this review because it’s an accurate representation of what you get!)
“Blueberries for Sal” by Robert McCloskey – This is a classic book and for good reason! It’s engaging and fun and kids just get immersed in it. I love bookmark with critical reading questions.
Blueberry Preserves Recipe & Jar Activity
The activities build on the story, so you’ll find that everything is thematically tied together. Tips on the sheets help you help your child learn depending on his age, along with building that learning as you go!
The motor activity helps your child internalize size comparisons.
Blueberry Pie Art Activity – What’s great about this box is that it includes learning questions to turn even the crafting activities into lessons.
Blueberry Picking, Where is Little Bear, and Blueberry Hunt
Every box includes a game – and this one was really fun for the kids (and I love the use of the tongs – so helpful in developing writing muscles!).
Where is little bear helped develop spatial reasoning (besides, next to, underneath, etc). Decorating the bear was really fun for my son, too!
Modeling Clay – I stumbled downstairs at 7am one day and found a full blown pie factory! This was “foamy” modeling clay – it’s air dry but you can reseal it if you want to keep it moist.
Every box comes with informational cards about the topic with new facts to learn.
The kids really did their own scaffolding and made blueberry bear “bread” and fed that and the pie to all the little creatures they had!
Blueberry Hunt – This was a really thrilling activity for the kids, they just got so excited about it!
Even my husband and baby F got in on the action!
How Many Blueberries Math Activity – I loved how my kids used the bear mold to hold all the blueberries they were adding!
Blueberry Hill – Another game to play while rereading the story. Ivy Kids encourages rereading, because it’s important for comprehension (and small children love repetition of favorite stories!).
Mama Bear & Baby Bear – The kids made them, and then “fed” them letters and played a word game.
To top it off, we made Blueberry Bear Bread! Lucky us, we just bought blueberries!
The recipe obviously turned out delicious!
This was a fantastic kit and we all enjoyed it! Most families will take the entire month to work through the activities, but of course we go a little nuts in our family. All the kits are great, but this one was especially wonderful!
