disney park pack

Disney Park Pack: Pin Trading Edition is a new monthly mystery pack from the Disney Store. It’s not a subscription – you have to purchase it every month – and it’s available on the first Thursday of every month (the June box has already sold out! I got one, did you?).  Unfortunately they sell out too early in the day for me to make a monthly reminder, though I’ll remind you (as I did this month!) in the monthly box reminder post (see the June one!).

pin storage

Although we are very frequent Disney vacationers (sometimes 2-3 times per year!). I hadn’t realized how excited my children would be about these pins! We bought them their first pins in April, and have decided we were crazy for never doing it before – they’re really the perfect souvenir – small, not too expensive, and fun to collect. For sure we will be purchasing some cheap “trader” pins off of eBay so the kids can trade with cast members during our next vacation (TBA!).

As you can see, the pins already made it to the Lanyard!  In the box were a Flag Minnie Bow (blue glittery field of stars), Mine Train Dopey with crystals for eyes, and the Frozen pin. The first two pins are “Open Edition.”  These open editions mean that there’s no “run” limit on them – but you’ll receive them before they’re available in the parks – and they might be a spoiler on new and upcoming pins! The Dopey pin was labeled as a “Silver” level pin and the bow wasn’t labeled, but it’s probably the same level (currently $9).

The Frozen pin is a Limited Edition pin of 500.

The Limited Edition pin has four variants of a similar design or theme; each of the variants has an edition size of 500.  A different Limited Edition pin may be available in each box

All pins are enameled cloisonné and come with the familiar Mickey Ears pinbacks. We received the pink/purple Frozen pin. My kids adore FROZEN! There were four variations, meaning that 2,000 boxes were available for the month.

They were so thrilled that they added new pins!

My son allowed me to take a quick photo of the pin on the card backer for size. We’re not perfectionist collectors and don’t keep things pristine 🙂  I am saving the boxes in case I need to “make a Park Pack” with other pins that I purchase for them (I’m on a quest to collect pins to commemorate our previous visits!).

For May the limit was 2 boxes, and I bought two of them on my Disney Store account – one for each kid. I didn’t purchase for resale, just for my family. (And if you hate me for buying two, please refer to my kids’ smiling faces, above. Thanks!) We purchased just one June box this month – the limit was one per Guest and we hadn’t received our boxes yet, so I wasn’t sure. Should our family choose to buy more than one July box, we’ll still be within that limit, as long as my husband also uses his Disney Store account.  To those of you who missed this box, either in May or June, be aware that you must get up super early in order to get one!  It remains to be seen how many boxes will be available in future months – for June it was clear that there were still only 2,000 boxes available.

I hope this goes to a subscription soon – Disney was perfectly able to use a standalone site for the Marvel Collector’s Corps box – so I don’t have to wake up so early once a month. I also have my fingers crossed really hard that they’ll have a non-pin Disney subscription box sometime in the future too (with exclusive items!). Unfortunately all of us crazy Disney peeps showed them that there’s no need to provide more value in a box than the list price so I’m not expecting gobs of merchandise for a low cost.
