I love this box! It’s one of my favorites, and not just because it’s wine. Wine Awesomeness is a wine club that’s sort of like a subscription box  – the wines are really well curated around a cool theme. I really enjoy this box and the theming is so perfectly done.

You’ll get 3 (or 6, depending on your choice) wines every month or every quarter, depending on how often you’d like to receive it. The 3 bottle box costs $45, and the 6 bottle box is $75. Currently I’m subscribed to the 3 bottle white (which includes sparkling and rosé) Wine Awesomeness Discovery Box. It’s totally awesome.

unicorn wines

The March Theme was Unicorn Wines. Every month you don’t just get 3 “really good” bottles of wine, you got 3 really good bottles curated around a specific theme along with an introduction to the theme, very readable educational materials about all the grapes in this region or the theme, and page by page introductions to each wine.

This is such a great, accessible mini-mag. This is my favorite wine subscription, hands down.

wine crossword

A crossword!

Each wine information page includes the following:

  • Wine Name
  • Grape
  • Location
  • What you should do while drinking this wine (many tongue in cheek)
  • What to eat with the wine
  • What to listen to while you drink the wine
  • Description
  • Wine Bouquet
  • Tasting Notes
  • Recipe

Not only was this super informational, it helps you learn about wine in a really low key way if you don’t know a lot about it besides “I like wine.” I do enjoy all types of wine and have taken some great wine tasting classes but I do usually revert to an “I like wine” state.

2014 Folk Machine Tocai Friuliano – This was a bright, crisp, limey wine and is a unicorn because the variety is a transplant to California!

ercavio

2013 Ercavio Blanco – This was a light fun wine that was sweet and dry at the same time, somewhat soft, and I thought it was fantastic. The primary grape is Airen which is a spanish grape and apparently not easy to find here.

angelot

2012 Domaine Angelot Roussette de Savoie – This was almost a muscaty flavor without being cloying at all. The Altesse grape is grown in Savoy, France, and basically nowhere else. Its sublime flavor makes it a perfect unicorn wine! This is the kind of thing I look for on a wine list so I’ve had a great wine and learned something too!

FYI – WA starts shipping on the first and the monthly box deadline is on the 11th so if you want to get in on the next theme order soon! I just love this box, it absolutely delights me every time, plus it’s extremely affordable – always a plus in my book!
