Scent Trunk is a scent discovery subscription. Formerly just for men, they’ve just expanded to women’s fragrances as well. Every month (or you can choose a seasonal quarterly box with four samples) you’ll receive 3 scents to experience, try out, and enjoy! Fill out a brief profile on their site and you’ll receive a customized box of fragrances.
The women’s Scent Trunk comes with 3 pretty cards packed in a nice little box.
The cards have information on each scent, the seasons and time of day for which it is appropriate, the longevity, and the sillage, which describes how far the perfume ingredients disperse (are you just smelling it or is everyone smelling it?).
Scent School: Fragrance Concentration
One interesting thing you’ll find with Scent Trunk, is that you’ll get a different amount of each of your fragrances, and you’re probably wondering why!
The fragrance oil is what makes a scent rich, and long-lasting. Different fragrances have different amounts of oil and this affects its longevity. Here are the different types of fragrances and the amount of oil in them:
- Eau Fraiche: 3% or less
- Eau de Cologne: 2 – 5%
- Eau de Toilette: 4 – 10%
- Eau de Parfum: 8 – 15%
- Soie de Parfum: 15 – 18%
- Parfum: 15 – 25%
I didn’t find this to be true for this box – I believe that all three of these scents had different (although similar) amounts and they were all eau de parfums.
Darcy by Parfums by Marly
Darcy is a feminine floral fragrance with notes of citrus, bergamot, orange blossom, jasmine, rose, patchouli, gourmand accords, white musk and woods.
Reminded me of Angel immediately – very delicious smelling.
Panda by Zoologist Eau de Parfum
Panda Eau de Parfum is a fresh green fragrance that combines the delightful scents of bamboo and zisu leaves to send you on an unforgettable aromatic adventure. Your journey begins at a quaint Sichuan pepper farm surrounded by mountain streams and then leads you through a forest of osmanthus flowers as you finally make your way into a cozy garden filled with juicy mandarin trees and blooming lilies. Panda is a scent ensemble that will truly awaken and rejuvenate your senses.
I didn’t care for this super green perfume. “Bamboo and zizu” leaves, it was odd!
Pauline by Rance 1795
Top notes offer luminous and sparkling zest of Sicilian orange, accompanied with exotic ylang ylang and cotton blossom. A heart is intoxicating and floral, composed of white Grasse rose, wild violet and Indian patchouli, while a base closes with Lebanese cedar, Siamese benzoin and tonka beans.
This one is all chocolate to me when it goes on – it must be the tonka beans that smell that way to me. It turns to the lighter notes later.
I really truly absolutely enjoyed the first and the last perfume! This box wasn’t customized for me but I think Scent Trunk is curating some excellent perfume choices – many of which are impossible to buy in the US and they definitely aren’t available in department stores. I love perfume so I am super happy with this subscription!
