universal yums box

Universal Yums is an international snack subscription! Every month you’ll take a trip to a new country and munch on brand new snacks. Yum Yum! There are two sizes of box, the Yum ($13) and the Yum Yum ($25). This is the Yum Yum box.

universal yums april For April Universal Yums went to Scandinavia! I was more than a little relieved that there were no super traditional items, as the box noted, like blood pancakes and rotten shark!

flag

I love the tissue paper set up to look like the country of the month’s flag. Since the country was actually a region, they went with Sweden’s flag.

info card The information card has descriptions of all the snacks, plus they have translated ingredients on their site. There’s also a clue to next month’s box – which is Israel!

 Everything in the April box.

Geisha Milk Chocolate With Hazelnuts – This was a little odd! It’s popular in Nordic countries and inspired by a pastry called “Japonica.” It was really good – hazelnut chocolate!

Dumle Caramels – Chocolate caramels popular among Swedish kids. Popular among me.

IMG_1919

Marianne Chocolate Mints – Hard mints with a delicious chocolately filling.

Salmakki (Salty Licorice) I guess the Finns like their licorice salty?

Panda Bluebery Licorice – My grandpa loves this (and all licorice) and I’m seeing him this week, so I’m saving these two for him. <3

Daim Toffee – The info card had some great info on this candy that I had no idea about. I’ve tasted this before – it’s like a Heath bar. Apparently the Marabou company in Sweden tried to license Heath bars and they gave the big thumbs down, so they made Daim. And now Hershey makes Skor, which is a Daim copycat. After buying the company that bought Heath (this part was glossed over on the card). To me, Heath and Skor are bout the same, couldn’t tell you the difference. I GTS for you and apparently Daim & Skor are more buttery-er. I always get super into googling everything when I get this box!

Kex Chocolate Wafers – the Swedish 5 o’clock wafer. I guess you pop one of these before dinner. I can get behind this plan.

IMG_1923

Lars’ Swedish Gingersnaps – I do prefer American gingersnaps but these were good and had a subtle spice flavor.

Marabou Chocolate with Nougat – Marabou candy is very popular in Sweden! We pretty much destroyed this. It was Grädd.

Finn Crisp Plus Rye Snacks – Garlic & Herbs –  I AM TOTALLY BUYING THESE AGAIN. They were so good. I love rye, I love crispbreads (think WASA), and I loved everything about this crunchy and flavorful rye snack. These were just awesome.

This is a great box! It wasn’t quite as full as last month’s, but that’s understandable given the price of snacks in China. I never do a breakdown on these, I wouldn’t go to the store and pick everything out and research it all (plus we live in the middle of nowhere) and I really love this box. I think it’s fab. Can’t wait for next month!
