Hamptons Lane is a fantastic foodie/gourmet subscription box perfect for everyone who loves to eat well and likes to have a hand in preparing their food. It doesn’t just deliver a few tasty morsels — Hamptons Lane curated boxes are great because they usually have some cool kitchen gadgets that enable you to recreate the deliciousness again and again. You get the equipment, the guidance, and some tasty gourmet accompaniments too!
The March Hamptons Lane theme is “The Pasta Box.”
Every month you’ll get a box of food and gourmet kitchenware items curated around the theme (though you can skip it if you’re not into the theme), you’ll pick up new and interesting finds from both domestic & international producers, plus the kitchenware to complete the theme. There’s a great fold-out full color brochure in each box.
The information sheet gives all the details on each item and where it was produced.
Two recipes were included on the reverse.
Weston Pasta Drying Rack ($11.43) The literature in the box was prepared with a beechwood drying rack in mind, but the box included a bamboo model. This is probably an improvement, as bamboo is known for its durability and sanitary qualities.
This is an improvement on hanging pasta all around the kitchen! It breaks down easily for storage.
Antimo Caputo Tipo 00 Flour ($4.99) This is the go-to flour for pasta making, a very fine semolina.
El Sison Squid Ink ($9) For authentic black pasta, conveniently packaged in single use packs to avoid spoilage. A classic mediterranean gourmet item that is not yet mainstream in the U.S.
Urbani Black Truffle & Mushroom Sauce ($10) This sauce is heat and serve. For the same effort level as opening and heating a jar of sauce, you get a high-end restaurant sauce. I am anxious to try, as truffles are intimidatingly expensive, and this is a great way to enjoy the rich flavors without the investment.
Eppicotispai Ravioli Stamp Trio ($24) Super light due to their aluminum construction. These are very sturdy; they cut pasta with ease while leaving the countertop unmolested. I overfilled my trial ravioli a bit, but the majority still hung together and had a wonderful texture.
Eppicotispai Tagliatelle Pasta Cutter ($7) This rolling-pin-style cutter requires a bit of downward pressure to be used effectively, but it can cut fettuccine as long as your counter top. The kids wanted seconds of the noodles we made from this cutter.
These are well constructed and effective without having sharp edges.
The booklet included in the box contained a recipe, but pasta is incredibly simple to make — really just egg and flour is needed to make a basic pasta dough.
This box has gotten me hooked on pasta again. It is delicious and simple, and a little homemade pasta goes much further than store bought. I love the fact that Hamptons Lane is not a “consumable” box; every month my toolkit and culinary repertoire grows!
