RawSpiceBar is a new cooking subscription. Every month for $6 you’ll receive small batch, freshly ground spice blends by top chefs for home cooks.

January Mailing

IMG_8598

Each month you’ll receive 3-4 freshly ground spice blends from one geography or region, enough to create 3 dishes serving 8-12 people

IMG_7937

In addition, you’ll get 3 kitchen-tested recipe cards, plus additional recipes online.

January’s theme  was Native American. It featured Sumac & Herbs, Ground Chiles, Posole Spices, and a Juniper Berries Blend.

IMG_7930

These are fresh, not over-ground spices, and we thought they were all delicious.

IMG_7931

My husband placed these in a muslin bag in the pressure cooker with some pork. It gently infused the entire dish with the flavors. Magnificent!

The subscription included a recipe for posole. We actually made our go-to recipe and replaced the spices with RawSpiceBar’s blend. Absolutely fantastic. This is a great way to introduce some adventure into your cooking without the long term commitment of a bottle. You know you’re supposed to dump all your spices after 6-12 months, right?

February RawSpiceBar

I love the little envelope inside the outer one, it’s so pretty.

We didn’t take a photo of it, but my husband carefully followed the RawSpiceBar recipe for Punjabi Chicken Tikka Masala. It was delicious. I am frankly terrible at making Indian food but this was a fairly easy recipe, with pretty authentic tastes – We grilled the chicken first and then cooked it in the masala.

IMG_7936

Punjab Garam Masala – This one, toasted and freshly ground, is used in the sauce.  Each family typically has their own garam masala blend.

IMG_7940

Tandoori Spices – You use these to marinate meat before charring. The charring is so so good.

IMG_7941

Rose & Chai Spices – Isn’t this lovely? The included recipe was for nankhatai cookies  with the flavors of freshly ground black peppercorns, ginger, organic rose buds & North Indian black tea.

RawSpiceBar added me to the subscriber mailing list so I could see what regular subscribers got. You’ll get a head’s up of the theme shortly before you receive it – and you’ll be able to visit their site to get a shopping list for that month’s recipes. I think this is an excellent subscription. We love to cook and we love flavorful, well-spiced food with fresh top-quality spices and herbs. RawSpiceBar totally delivered on that.

Visit RawSpiceBar to subscribe or find out more! You can also see all the food & cooking subscriptions in the directory.

I like all kinds of foods from everywhere…so it’s hard to say. Indian food is my favorite, but so many people have already said Garam Masala…I think I’ll say an Italian Spice blend. 🙂

This looks great. I do a new recipie 1-2 times a month so this will be fun. We tried plated and it was good but just too expensive for 4 people especially when you still have to make a salad or side and it didn’t feel much like trying new things. I can’t wait to try this one

we are hardcore, we actually try to use subscriptions like this in order to give a real review. we can’t always use every single item in time for the post, but we make an honest effort. we used the ground chiles too now that i think about it, but i’m not sure what it was in. you’re welcome and thanks for noticing 🙂

So we are not overly adventurous with our spices so I usually just use some lemon and herb or something with garlic or crushed red peppers. We need to venture out.
