January Tyler Florence Fancy Box Review

For some reason the January Tyler Florence Fancy Box did not make it to me until mid-February. I don’t know why it took forever but I loved it, so I didn’t really care all that much! I think it’s the best curated Fancy Box and I feel like it actually has Tyler Florence’s stamp on it. Of course Fancy has all sorts of boxes and you can just go and search for it to see what’s available. I really hope that the delay in shipping Tyler’s box doesn’t mean that it will be canceled. I would be really truly sad. Fancy said: There was a slight delay in getting one of the products Tyler Florence wanted in his Fancy Box. And I totally believe it. Really, you will not get the same products in this box as you do in other Fancy boxes.

Yeah, I was totally psyched when I saw this box was full!

January 2014 Tyler Florence Fancy Box Review

After I’d unwrapped and unpacked everything I was totally delighted! Complete happiness.

Unlike my last box, the January Tyler Florence Fancy Box had information cards! Hooray!

I was so impressed with the personalized information on these that I took a picture of the backs. You can click the photo and read them if you’d like.

I have to be honest. The first time I got a Tyler Florence brand food item I was like, this is just overpriced celebrity food. It is not. It is absolutely delicious. I have loved every Tyler Florence food item. I’m not even a particularly big fan of his show (I don’t even watch food tv!) or anything. But I like his style and he obviously has awesome standards/taste buds. So just an FYI on that.

Tomato Vodka Pasta Sauce ($9) I was excited to read the card that said it was a perfect complement to cheese-filled tortellini, because I had some in my freezer. I cooked up a few handfuls for lunch today and topped it with this sauce. Delicious. Loved the visible garlic too. I’m saving the rest for the suggestion of adding sausage, peas, and some fresh grated parmesan.

California Puttanesca Sauce ($9) Tyler wants me to eat this with seafood, which isn’t going to happen. That’s ok because I love olives and I know this is going to be an amazing sauce. I’ll probably use it to top some organic penne when the kids demand buttered noodles and I give in. It happens.

Endurance Precision Pierced Stainless Steel Colander ($25) I can’t tell you how surprised and delighted I was with this. I use this style of colander. Except mine is cheap – it’s mesh and one of the handles is missing. Replacing it has been on my to do list. I love this for so many reasons – it’s perfect to drain pasta (including that damned stelline that gets through all other types of colanders), rinse berries, and one of the things it is perfect for – draining meat. Yes, that’s how I do it. I just throw it in the colander. And then I throw the colander in the dishwasher. This one is stainless steel and dishwasher safe. Perfect.

Acacia Salt Cellar ($16) Love this one because it has a lid. You’ll probably see it from now on in my dinner kit reviews in the background. Has anyone noticed that I have 4 different salts on my counter? I have a problem. A big one. Actually what I’ll probably do is take out the kosher salt I put in there and put the smoked salt from last month when I finish unpacking stuff from Vermont. Yeah, I’m not really doing so well on that.

Norpro Pizza Wheel ($10) Ergonomic handle, dishwasher safe, huge wheel, replaces old nasty pizza cutter that I wanted to replace. Huge win. Went in my drawer immediately. I am going to have to start making dough again – my husband worked in a pizza joint all throughout college and as soon as he moves back, Saturday nights are pizza nights again! Actually he’ll be here next week. Guess what we’re having. The kids love to see him toss the dough.

Cipriani Pappardelle ($8) This is extra thin egg pasta and Tyler suggests pairing with the Puttanesca. You don’t have to tell me twice. Looks delicious and unusual too. Looking forward to trying this one!

The total value of the January Tyler Florence Fancy Box was $77. I was more than happy with this box – I got several awesome food items and I will use (or already have used) each tool in this box. Everything is quality. I wish Fancy could be a little more on its game with the shipping delays but I will forgive them because it was for something Tyler wanted in his box! I’m even more psyched to think that the February box should be here in the next couple of weeks. Bring it on Tyler!
