I was thrilled when Austin Lloyd sent me this box to review for January! I had heard wonderful things about this box from multiple people and I’m happy to report it is all true! Austin Lloyd is a premium toy subscription box for children under the age of 3. E *just* turned three about a month ago and we were sure he’d like the toys. It turned out the toys in Austin Lloyd are so thoughtful and long-lasting that my five year old loved this box just as much! Every month Austin Lloyd sends out toys that are selected for the play level of your child. Everything is BPA and phthalate free (and battery free as well!), and totally high end. You can get your Austin Lloyd box monthly or every other month, and I think if you are looking for a top-quality subscription Austin Lloyd is really an excellent solution for your young child! With a six-month subscription the price goes down a tad to $45 per month. Every box contains 4-5 toys including at least one book.
This packaging was personalized and unique! It is a great presentation and would make an excellent gift! The notes on the gift tag gave a hint as to what was inside!

January 2014 Austin Lloyd Review
I was surprised to see even more beautiful packaging! It truly was like opening a present.
There was an information card for every item in my Austin Lloyd box. In addition, there was a note about the play level of my 2-3 year old and music:
Music has a power that goes beyond words. The pleasure of sharing music builds connections between parent and child as sounds and rhythms surround the child in a world of sensations and feelings, Music also offers a joyful and rewarding learning experience and nurtures a child’s imagination and creativity.
I was so excited by everything inside and I knew my kids would love it! I snuck opening this one but they quickly figured out what I was up to and I opened each item so they could play with it!
Rattling Rhythm Maker ($10) I was personally excited to get this one, I don’t know what the technical name is, but the instrument where you rub the stick on the grooves, I love them and the kids love them, and this was even better because it had the tambourine included. I think I’ve snuck this one back in the music bin about 5 times in three days (which means that it is well loved and keeps “escaping!”).
Haba Musical Eggs ($29) So nice to make some chill music that has nothing to do with batteries. Each egg makes its own sound and my son loved discovering each one. One even clicks!
Plan Toys Tot Drum ($20) This was a lovely well-constructed drum and string instrument all in one! The bead could be pulled, and there are strings on the reverse side for plucking. The two pads hit the drum if you rotate it back and forth. The drum itself is constructed of natural rubber. I liked this drum a lot and it wasn’t annoying like other drums we have in our collection, which will now be replaced by this one!
Zin Zin Zin! A Violin ($8) This is one of my favorite children’s books ever. I loved it, and the kids have asked for it over and over. The story is written in poetry and it’s rhymey without being “Seuss-y” if that makes any sense. The children are introduced to various instruments through story and pictures, counting, until the solo becomes a duo and the entire orchestra is on stage. The story is very lyrical and I was impressed by this book.
E likes to go to the table to do his thing, so I set up his musical eggs on a blanket so they wouldn’t roll all over the place. I want to say that they played with all the toys straight away for a good hour without stopping, and they have returned again and again to them. The total value of our January Austin Lloyd box was $67! This was a really nice savings on toys that are hard to find savings on – brands like HABA and Plan Toys always fit the bill here too. For a music themed box, I thought this one was extremely well curated as to not be annoying (important!) while still maximizing play value. I was impressed with the enduring quality of everything in the box and know it will be used for years! I’m more than a little sad that my son is technically too old for this box.
Once you are done playing with your toys, Austin Lloyd will gladly send you a prepaid label to return them for donation if you choose, either in your box or any other box! So easy to get rid of the clutter (how big of a box can I send back?) and helps take care of kids in need.
