I admit, I don’t quite get December’s Sample Society theme, which is “Hair for the Party.” There’s only one hair item in the box. So, um, ok Beauty Bar!  BeautyBar.com’s Sample Society is a fun little subscription box produced in partnership with Allure Magazine and you get a $15 code to spend on box brands on Beauty Bar (nobody would ever use this every month, but it’s nice to have) plus a little Allure mini-mag, which I enjoy.

Sample Society Time!
Sample Society Time! Why is this photo crooked? Who knows!

The Description: Get five deluxe-sized luxury brand samples and $15 monthly gift code to redeem on a $50 purchase at BeautyBar — when any product from the brands you sampled is included in your order. Plus an Allure mini-mag.

December 2013 Sample Society – Hair for the Party

I don’t know why my photos are so atrocious, except I was doing some last minute snaps before packing! I had expected my box to arrive a few days earlier than it did (mine is normally early in the month).

Murad Pore & Line Minimizing Hydrator ($9.60) I think this is more of a filler than anything else. I received this in last month’s box. After going around and around with BeautyBar, they finally conceded it was a mistake.* Funny enough I brought my first sample with me. I look pretty.

Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Dry Shampoo ($1) As we are planning on doing last minute errands before the snow hits and not showering until we get home, I just used some to freshen up — and applied liberally to my husband! I wouldn’t consider this a party hair item – I’d consider this a day after the party item…

Stila Lip Glaze ($22) I’m the luckiest duck to get this in my box, and it’s such a beautiful shade. You can get a trio set right now on BeautyBar for $28! Neat. This is one of my favorite box products ever!

Philosophy Hope in a Jar Night Moisturizer ($9.60) After flying all day and going from heavy humidity to dry crisp air, I’ll probably use this all today. I don’t even use regular moisturizer in Vermont – only night creams. A must for winter!

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant ($8.35) I love microfoliant powders! This is made of rice bran powder and is a gentle daily exfoliant.

My December Sample Society box had a value of over $50! I think I hit the jackpot with this one! I really thought this box was awesome, even though it barely had anything to do with hair! If you want to subscribe or find out more, visit Sample Society!

* Here’s the whole ridiculous story with the wrong sample from my November Sample Society Box! They insisted it was a variety sample (it said something different on my card). Then they said it was the wrong card. After I noted that the website must be wrong too, they said it was wrong and refunded me the cost of my box. I don’t know why they didn’t just say whoopsie and credit me $3 or something.

I haven’t heard of this one, but it sounds great. How do you like it compared with Birchbox and other beauty subscriptions?

Oh let’s see. I generally am much happier with the products but there isn’t a rewards system. It’s only samples (but some full size). I like getting the random candle, headband, whatever in this box. Glossybox doesn’t do that. Blush is full and deluxe size. It just depends what you want. I can’t afford to subscribe to ALL the boxes personally but I do subscribe to this one for now! I will use everything in this box myself. I do have a pile of stuff for gifting that I save up. I trade sometimes but mostly I don’t because I already get everything else and usually people want to swap a $10 kids shampoo for a $50 bag and that’s silly.
