I missed out on last month’s Loot Crate – it sold out before I ordered it – so I made sure to get in on the fun December Loot Crate! Loot Crate is a box for geeks and gamers and sometimes has a shirt – December included one – but not always. Since Loot Crate‘s one year anniversary they have switched things up a bit – the box now includes a cute mini-mag and sometimes has a food or snack item.

The SubscriptionLoot Crate
The Description: Lootcrate is a subscription box full of gamer-ific loot for geeks and gamers. Past crates have included figurines, candy, stickers, gift cards, accessories, more figurines, buttons, books, postcards, shirts, stickers, games, you name it, all with a geeky, game-y flair.
The Price: $20/month

Console Wars II Shirt ($15) A shirt that pays homage to the often fierce battles between console loyalists with an additional homage to Star Wars and Star Trek. Sweet.

Energems by NRG Innovations + Coupon ($2.50) Chocolate coated caffeine candy with B vitamins for good measure. Nuff said.

Bravest Wars Sticker ($2.50)

Shirt Woot $5 Coupon I won’t count this in the box value because you have to spend more money to use it, but we totally used it the last time we received one in our Loot Crate!

Gamer/Geek Bracelet

Split Personality Wristband($3) Flip to the side you feel like that day!

Controller Button Covers

Grip iT Analog Stick Covers ($5) These have amazing reviews! I’m going to stash these, I think we’re going to get an Xbox again this year. We had one, then we had a Wii, now we have no console.

Iron Man Stationery Kit

Funko Iron Man Tin-Tastic Art Kit ($7) 2 pencils, 2 figure erasers, and 1 sticker sheet. I am saving this for my little guy’s stocking. He fell in love with Iron Man from Nerd Block!

Bonus Holiday Item (Candy Cane) – Is this a test?

My December Loot Crate had a value of around $35 (some of the items are hard to value because they’re made for Loot Crate). I thought this was a great box and I’m excited to gift the tin to my kiddo for Christmas!

Which of the two do you think is better: Loot Crate or Nerd Block? I gave a gift subscription to Loot Crate to a friend of mine and he seems to like it but I wonder if the other is better. I don’t know about any of the stuff they send. I mean, I’ve seen unboxings and reviews but I’m still rather clueless about the items. I played an Atari 2600 when it first came out so I’m not up-to-date on the technologies these days. I’m one of those old people who think it’s all moving too fast. I’m curious to know what the gamers and geeks think of the boxes and if they had to pick one, which one they would choose.

I think it depends on what kind of stuff you like. If you NEED a shirt every month, get the Nerd Block – but it’s $10 more. The clear winner for our family this month is Loot Crate. Right now it has more variety – Nerd Block seems to do 3 of whatever item. This month it was blind bags, the other month it was blind boxes. Loot Crate is more gamer oriented.
