I got my second Hello Fresh Box recently and wanted to share it with you! {Note – Even though this review is older, you’ll always find current coupons/deals on the subscription box coupon page – currently you can take $40 off your first box with code 7UT7K8}  I actually accidentally ordered a second box for last week, but it was great that I had it because my husband was here and I had no groceries!  I reviewed our first Hello Fresh meal (that I cooked with my kids!) in depth too.

Hello Fresh is a weekly meal subscription service. The meals aren’t prepared – you get the recipes & ingredients to make everything! You pick the recipes from what they have available (or if you’re like me, just let Hello Fresh choose) and they deliver it to your door. Hello Fresh includes nearly everything you need to make your meal – they do expect you to have salt, pepper, oil, butter, and sugar. Those are the only things I’ve needed to add so far.

It comes in a giant, insulated cardboard box.  There are ice packs on the bottom and the meat is packed on top of the ice, with all the other ingredients (and there is a ton of food in this box!) piled on top!

When you open it up you find the Hello Fresh recipe cards. I loved getting a meal surprise! The meats and styles of the foods were all different. I hate eating the same thing over and over again. Hello Fresh has brought a lot of variety into our kitchen!

You can see the meat at the bottom and all the bagged ingredients on top. EVERYTHING is labeled with the meal name. I just take everything & stick it in my fridge. No organizing!IMG_8141

These are the gel ice packs. I was super busy on the day I got this and left the box sitting there for 6 hours. Still ice cold when I decided to finally deal with putting the groceries away.

These are all the ingredients for the three meals in this box.

Vietnamese-Style Beef & Noodle Salad

This was a delicious meal! I loved the interesting textures and the flavor was really top notch. Hello Fresh excels at taking simple ingredients and having you put them together where the flavors mingle and play off of one another. This had sweet, sour, and spicy and was perfect.

IMG_8139The prep was very simple. I used a peeler to “slice” the cucumber, cut up the carrots, and chopped the cilantro & mint.  Instead of adding sugar to the sauce, I used stevia. When I made the noodles I used sesame oil to toss them in.IMG_8155This was hugely delicious & very presentable. I would have never thought of doing this on my own.IMG_8156

Roasted Pork Chops with Citrus Fennel Salad

I love fennel.  I discovered when I was making it they wanted me to eat it raw. That wasn’t for me, so I braised it! (That means I put it in a pan and cooked it).

I loved the fennel, pear, and orange combo.IMG_8145 The interplay of flavors & colors is definitely a strong suit for Hello Fresh.  All the meals are very inviting.IMG_8146 Yep, I cooked it.  You can follow the recipe exactly or make it your own.IMG_8147 Look at this giant portion. We were totally stuffed.  All the produce is really top notch, the meat is tender and delicious and very high quality. I found that the portions of meat were very substantial – more than I expected.IMG_8148

The pork was so very tender and I love cooking with fruit, which I never do, because I just don’t think of it.  The fennel was perfect against the pork and the fruit.

Chicken Paillard with Crushed Rosemary Potatoes and Arugula

I love arugula! I was excited to see this recipe in the box because of that. Have you noticed that the nutritional information is right there on the recipe card? We both appreciated that.

IMG_8140 All the great ingredients. Don’t you love how they put two cloves of garlic in there ready for you to use? No peeling!IMG_8153

IMG_8132 We skipped the potatoes and I used some extra green beans instead, and leftover almonds from the previous meal.  It’s only because I need to avoid carbs so much.  The calories and carbohydrates in these meals are very reasonable.  Nothing is overly processed and the meals don’t rely on fillers.  We had one meal last week that was a pasta dish – my husband and I skipped the pasta and were totally stuffed at the end.  The portions on Hello Fresh really are quite large and comparable to a restaurant meal.

The flavor on this dish was very surprising to me.  The parsley and arugula combined with the chicken was to die for!

Hello Fresh Food Box

Hello Fresh is absolutely less than what it would cost you to eat in a nice restaurant – or even takeout, which is getting pretty expensive. All the ingredients are super premium and have lasted longer for me than the same grocery store items.  They are obviously packed and handled with the utmost care, and well…. FRESH!

If you want to sign up, Hello Fresh is $69 a box! Make sure to check out all my Hello Fresh Reviews to see all the wonderful flavors and meals you can get!  The menus do change weekly so you’re always getting new and different food.

My husband & I loved this. We didn’t have to worry about what to make and we both agreed that it was so much easier than selecting recipes yourself, hunting down ingredients, wrangling toddlers at the grocery store, and all the million things that need to go into making a meal. He was surprised about how much food there was and how friendly the calorie counts were to the waistline.

That’s too bad. I think I’m going to order another one for next week when my husband is back in town (well not for next week, the week after).
