I got another ThredUP payout this week! I do quite a bit of ThredUPping (you can see all my previous ThredUP payouts here). I had moved some clothes out of the way to MIL’s house and it was time to get rid of them on my last trip, so I sent in a giant bag. If you are looking to sell, please note that most of the items get less than one dollar. There is little rhyme or reason to the payouts, but there is a reduced payout on anything under a certain dollar value. I asked about it on email on got this response (emphasis below mine):
Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for you to hand-down your clothes to other families. This means we cover the cost of shipping and we pay expert consignors to process and itemize your clothing. Due to these costs, we are able to pay out 10% – 40% commission for each items’ re-sale. We determine where your items fall within the 10-40% range based on clothing brand, size, category and condition. We do pay out a lower percentage for lower priced items and a higher payout for more expensive items. You’ve actually earned more with the new payout structure overall. Only clothing selling for $9.98 and under will have a 10% payout. Any items selling for $10 and up will receive up to a 20- 40% payout.
You will earn more money on ThredUP if you send in those high value items. If you don’t care, just send in a bag. ThredUP also offers Return Assurance if you want your unaccepted items returned. I personally don’t think it’s worth it – why pay ten bucks to get old clothes back that you might get 5 for on consignment? Don’t forget get $10 your first order by using promo code THRED10 on ThredUP!
