Valentine's Day Gifts for Toddlers and Preschoolers

I am a terrible mother. I got my kids corn syrup for Valentine’s Day.

To be fair, I will probably only let them have one bag of fruit snacks each (and it’s not high fructose corn syrup. That makes me feel marginally better). I think fruit snacks are an abomination and I have no idea why I bought them, except that I got the boxes for 50 cents each.

I picked up A’s outfit on Gymboree clearance, snagged the train for E during Christmas shopping season on Amazon, and bought the Sing-a-ma-jig from Fisher-Price. I got that one, 2 Christmas ones, and a Halloween one, all for a few bucks each.

I’m a crazy in advance shopper. I have 3 gift closets. My Christmas/birthday shopping for the kids (their birthdays are about a week before Christmas) is 90% done.

And I got the fruit cocktail in my Peapod order. I spent about $20 bucks, which I am happy with.

But I need to do a better job with the snacks. I don’t know if it’s good enough to say it’s a special occasion. It’s always a special occasion. When my kids do get candy I am pretty ruthless about throwing it out after a day or two. It’s a lot of sugar. Something to improve on.

I think we’ll end up making brownies for dad on Valentine’s Day too. We are so excited because we haven’t seen him in about 6 weeks. Got the news yesterday that his out of state gig will probably be extended through the end of the year. It is so hard on our family for him (and our dog! Waaah!) to be away but he has a really great job and it is not the best time for a job search. He stayed at home with the kids until our son was about 9 months old, so we are grateful that he’s just back working.
