My Lemon Crate is an essential oil monthly subscription box.  In each box, they send everything needed to make 3-5 complete theme-based recipes (e.g., health and beauty products, items for around the home, etc.) each month.  The boxes cost $29/month.  Let’s see what’s inside!

Here’s what I saw opening the box.  I just love the yellow squiggly paper – so funny and lemony!  I also love the brushed nickel-colored bottles – so crisp & clean. 20160915_111952

On the inside of the box, there is a placard that introduces the theme and lists the included projects.  This month’s theme is Beauty Basics.  This is definitely one area where I’ve wanted to learn more about making my own products and essential oils — I hate how chemically so many beauty products are and have been working to get rid of them from my vanity.  Let’s see what I learned to make.

Here’s a look at everything in the box.  I love that My Lemon Crate projects are labeled with both what the item is and what project it is used for.  Additionally, the instructions provided (available on Pinterest, Youtube, and by email to subscribers) are clear and easy to follow.

Inside the little muslin bag is a collection of essential oils to use in the projects.  I have had the opportunity to review My Lemon Crate boxes for a number of months now, and the variety of essential oils that My Lemon Crate has sent over that time has been amazing – I’ve learned so much about so many different oils.  Also, My Lemon Crate promises to send therapeutic grade essential oils.  In addition to the oils, My Lemon Crate sends all the other premium natural ingredients and the containers you need to make the projects.  The box contains everything necessary to make each of the projects, but even better, the recipes give ingredient detail amounts so you can make and remake the projects after the supplied materials are used up.  Let’s check out this month’s projects!

Cleansing Grain Scrub:  Some of this month’s projects included lots of ingredients – including this cleansing grain scrub project.  Even with all these ingredients, however, the directions for making the scrub were super simple…just mixing the various packages together in the described order.

It’s a little blurry, but here’s a picture of the project before I put it in the storage bag provided.  It is basically a mix of oats, flour, clays, charcoal, and essential oils.  To use, you add a little water and make it into a mask.  The charcoal is a natural ingredient that traps toxins.  The myrtle and geranium oils smell very clean and fresh.

Dry Shampoo:  We are big fans of dry shampoo in our house, so I was eager to try this project.  I made it with arrowroot only – I have light brown hair and my daughters are blonde, so it seemed more useful to make it this way.  For brunettes, the box suggests making it with part arrowroot and part cocoa powder.  To make, I just had to mix the powder and the liquids together in the spray bottle and shake – super simple!  It seems to work well and it smells awesome!  Yeah!

Makeup Brush Cleaner:  Another super easy project – just mix the provided ingredients in the pump bottle and voila!  I probably don’t clean my makeup brushes enough – so this was a great product for me to make.  And not only does sage smell great, but it has cleansing properties.

Cuticle Cream:  This was the most difficult project this month…and it was still super easy to make.  I melted the butters and wax, then added the jade lemon essential oil.  So not hard.

Here’s a picture of the finished project.  Now I have this great tin of waxy cream to rub into my cuticles (or elbows or heels) to soften and moisturize them.  I love the way this project turned out and I love the jade lemon scent, too!

I truly enjoy My Lemon Crate boxes.  The projects are totally useful, but super simple…perfect for someone like me who is a total newbie to using and making projects with essential oils.  Because I’m a newbie, I love that My Lemon Crate provides clear instructions, describes the properties of the oils, provides everything necessary to do the projects, and gives hints about how to redo the projects later with my own supplies.  The variety in types of projects and essential oils has also been great.
