NatureBox August 2016 box

NatureBox is one of the oldest monthly snack subscription boxes out there, and we are still subscribing!  Every month you’ll receive 5 snacks and can add on additional premium snacks (or sometimes sale snacks!). You can create a “pantry” queue of snacks to receive.

 NatureBox August 2016 unboxing

Every so often Nature Box switches up its subscription management – FYI – you can double your box to 10 snacks and get it monthly or bi-monthly. Neat!

NatureBox August 2016 (1)

The information sheet provides a list of all the goodies this month, plus the add-ons I ordered, which are fairly cheap (usually $3).

NatureBox August 2016 review

Everything in our August box!  The snack bowls come in two-packs.

 NatureBox August 2016 (2)

Garlic Bread Cheese Crisps: These crunchy slices are thicker than a cracker and much more fun.  Made with garlic and real cheese, these are almost too good to put anything on, we tend to just stuff them in our faces! We ordered this 4 pack add on for an extra $10.

NatureBox August 2016 (3)

Jalapeño Cashews: These have a great jalapeno flavor — it’s a little spicy, but it is remarkably good at capturing the other flavor notes of the pepper.

Sriracha Roasted Cashews: Sweeter and less hot than I thought they’d be!

NatureBox August 2016 (4)

Vanilla Bean Wafers:  A healthier take on the classic vanilla wafer, these are made with unbleached flour, real butter and vanilla beans, and a touch of flax and whey protein. It was hard not to gobble them, but our baby enjoyed them so much we saved most for him!

Dark Cocoa Nom Noms:  Crunchy little cocoa oat cookies.  These go fast at our house!

Mini Cocoa Belgian Waffles:  These have the same great tender-crisp texture of the very timid regular mini Belgian waffles, but the flavor vacuum is filled with a nice dose of rich cocoa.  Like the regular version, they are not particularly sweet, but they are addictive nonetheless. These belong to our almost 2 year old. Crazy over them.

Kung Pao Pretzels:  A long-standing favorite of ours.  Waffle-style pretzels are coated with a tangy and spicy coating that packs just the right amount of sweet and heat.  There are always a few in the bag that are absolutely blasted with the coating — we fight over these!

NatureBox August 2016 (5)

Asiago & Cheddar Cheese Crisps:  One of our frequent reorders, these are good snacking.  The cheese is nutty and sharp, and the texture of the crisps themselves are like crunchier slices of palmier pastry.  Yum!

The Asiago gives the crisps a nutty, tangy note that makes them more satisfying than just the cheddar alone would be — which means you may be able to resist eating them all in the first sitting.
Sourdough Cheddar Pretzels:  The pretzel within these bites is very nice — it gets close to Hanover sourdough pretzels in quality of taste and texture, and it is far beyond that of your ordinary non-sourdough powdery pretzel.  The cheese coating is a nice accent flavor, and one can really taste the hoppy and malty notes of the real beer that is mixed in!

Whole Wheat Raspberry Figgy Bars:  These are hearty and tasty, and the whole wheat flour adds a really satisfying wholesomeness to the texture and taste.  The fig and raspberry combination makes a jam that is rich in flavor and appropriately sweet for the cake exterior.  Within the bag, these are individually wrapped and make superb travel treats.

NatureBox August 2016 (6)

Mac & Cheese with Veggies:  We were very pleased with the mac & cheese.  It’s all natural and even has some peas, carrots, and bell pepper pieces, too.  It is super tasty and caused no boil-overs! This is on our must reorder list!

NatureBox August 2016 (7)

Pineapple Coconut Bar:  These chewy bars are much better than the big brand version, and they have a much better nutritional profile, too.  Pleasantly sweet and loaded with real fruit and nuts, these bars are not just crisps and sugary binding — in addition to the marquee pineapple and coconut, they have whole pieces of real almond, peanut, and walnut, plus sweet raisins and apricot.   Order several of these — they come in packs of three, but they go fast!

NatureBox August 2016 (8)

Creme Brulee Peanuts:  These are my new favorite!  The core of each morsel is a mild roasted peanut.  The shell, however, is pure magic — it is buttery and sweet, and it actually crackles like a creme brulee topping.  The overall appeal of the snack is similar to that of Boston Baked Beans, but the coating is infinitely more elegant.  They taste like a very lightly salted and very sweet honey roasted peanut, but with a magnificent candy shell.

We’ll reorder every time if we can!

Limited Edition Thai Coconut Curry Peanuts: Wish these were a regular offering, because they are really good!  The curry coating is bursting with the flavors of Thai cuisine — its a little spicy, a little sweet, and a little spicy.

NatureBox August 2016 (9)

The coatings really transformed the ordinary peanuts into delicious flavor bombs!

NatureBox August 2016 (10)

Cranberry Pepita Crisps:  We love these!  The pieces of pepita and cranberry baked into the bread add nice little bits of chew, and the pita itself is crunchy and delicious.  They even have a dusting of sugar, making them utterly cravable.  We can’t wait to plop some cream cheese on these and munch away!
