August 2016 Yummy Bazaar Full Experience Subscription Box Review – France

Yummy Bazaar delivers gourmet food items to your door monthly.  The items for the Destination Food Club are carefully selected from a different single country every month.  With the Full Experience you’ll get 6-8 full sized gourmet items from your destination for $35.95.  There is also a Sampler subscription that sends 6-8 sample sizes from various countries for $9.95.  We received the Full Experience box.

This month’s featured destination was France!  As always, the box was packed in a smartly utilitarian, corrugated, brown paper, and tape combo.  It is a very clever packing scheme — recyclable and cool looking.

The guide provides recipes you can make using the items in the box!

The product description pages give a brief description of each item, along with several suggested uses, the retail price, and the origin.

Everything was packed snugly to avoid any damage during shipping.

Mouettes d’Arvor Salmon Rillettes with Lemon and Dill ($7.75) Rillettes prepared with lemon & dill – this is similar to pâté, but typically pork, so extra fancy. It would pair really well with the crackers, as it’s normally served on toast points.

Sabarot Dried Mixed French Mushrooms ($6.95) Dried oyster, black, and porcini mushrooms that can be rehydrated in 3 minutes. Great for soup or even a quick creamy mushroom sauce for pasta or veggies!

Biscuiterie de Provence Crackers with Tomatoes and Espelette Pepper ($7.95) Aforementioned crackers! Well these are rather strong and tomatoey – not at all what I expected! I think they’d be great as suggested – as a crouton – or smothered in cream cheese to provide a counterpoint to the flavor.

Sibell French Potato Chips ($4.95) These French crisps are flavored with Herbs de provence (and no preservatives or coloring!). They were pretty delightful and it was difficult to share – fortunately there were a lot of chips in the bag!

Fossier Palmier Cookies ($8.95) I’m crazy about palmiers, which are buttery puff pastry formed into little elephant ears, and baked until crispy.

There were lots of them – and oh so good and buttery! This brand – Maison Fossier – has been making these since the reign of Louis XV!

Karine & Jeff Organic French Ratatouille ($7.95) This gorgeous organic ratatouille begged me to eat it from the spoon, which I did.

It’s packed with tomato, eggplant, and zucchini and just marvelous. Ratatouille is one of my favorite dishes from childhood and I don’t prepare it nearly often enough. A total treat!

L’Abeille Diligente French Honey Cake ($7.95) More treats! A large loaf of honeyed gingerbread was in the box – it arrived a teeny bit compressed on one edge, but not squashed.

The flavor is like a rich honeyed mead and really truly delicious – and a first for me! I’ve never had a honey gingerbread before!

Francine Crêpe Mix ($7.95) Finally, crêpes! This no-sugar mix can be used for savory or sweet french pancakes, which are flat, just like the photo. The mix needs some oil and milk and I’m hoping to have a weekend crêpe night with the kid – also a fun memory from my own childhood!

This subscription box is so wonderful in that it provides a broad gastronomic exploration of a country at a time, and it’s easy, fun, and usable. Everything from Yummy Bazaar has always been top notch and really fresh – they’re an impressive company and the subscription is even more so. Loved this box, I thought the items were wonderful – and the value was about $60! Victorieux!
