LitRx Subscription Box Review – July 2016

LitRx is a subscription box for book lovers, fan girls, and people who are in need of something new to read but “don’t really want to put on pants” to go to a book store.  I knew right from that description that LitRx was going to be fun for me!

Similarly, LitRx notes that its monthly boxes deliver the remedy for book hangover.  What is book hangover, you ask?  I’ll use LitRx’s definition:  “It’s 4 am and you’ve just finished reading the last page of your book. You’ve got to go to work or school in just a few hours, but the remnants of the story have overtaken your thoughts. You can’t believe it’s over! And that’s when the book hangover kicks in.”  Yep.  Been there.   Let’s see what the remedy for book hangover looks like!

Opening the box, I was greeted by pretty mint tissue paper.  After ripping into the tissue paper, I saw all these lovely, rich colors…and, of course, a book.

Here’s a look at everything in the box.  According to LitRx, “every month you’ll receive a new-to-you book, a coordinating hand-crafted fragrance from Book Scents and 2-4 items inspired by the book and tailor-made for literary lovers.”

Here is the front of July’s information card.  It features the theme (Second Chances) and color pictures of all of the items in the box.

The reverse of the information card lists off the contents for the box, including a detailed description and why the item was included (e.g., what part of the story it was inspired by, etc.).  What fun!

Vintage by Susan Gloss ($13.26).  I haven’t had a chance to read the whole book yet, but I have started it and am enjoying it.  It is an engaging read about friendships, told from the perspective of some women that are connected through a vintage clothing store.  The chapters are tied to a particular piece of vintage clothing and told through the perspective of one of the women.  I am looking forward to finishing the book – it’s hard to decide what is more interesting…the women’s stories or the way the author describes the clothing!  Very fun reading so far.

BookScentsCandle Grandmother’s Love Tin Candle.  This is a lovely scented candle – it smells pretty much like the information card describes it, like a classic perfume.  Kind of what you would expect your grandmother to wear, in the very best way.  I love the idea of book-inspired candles…especially since I am both a book geek and a candle junkie.  I can’t wait to try more Book Scents!

waterwaif Vintage Boho Dahlia Ring.  This is a beautiful little ring – it features a peachy pink flower on an “antique gold” detailed band.  The ring adjusts to fit multiple sizes.  As the information card notes, this is inspired by one of the character’s love story, but is also apt because dahlias are a symbol of inner strength – a characteristic of one of the characters.  This ring is really pretty and I like how it ties to the story.

Ella Marie Colorful Fabric Bag:  This is a sweet little hand crafted bag – it combines two colorful patterns in an almost quilted-like bag with a wrist strap and zipper top…super cute and bright.  Little fabric bags like this are so trendy and this is a fun version.  Again, the information card notes how it ties into the story – it is inspired by one of the book’s characters who loves colors and sewing.  I really like this bag and look forward to using it.

LitRx subscription boxes start at $40/month shipped, with discounts for 3- and 6-month subscriptions.  As a book lover, I loved the idea of this box – not only do the book’s characters become my new friends, but I also get to enjoy a “piece” of the characters in the goodies that come with the book…it’s almost like bringing the book into my life.  Such a fun box!  I know book choices are often very personal, but I think that any book lover would be happy to try LitRx out!
