Broderi Box July 2016 box

Broderi Box is a monthly box from Nordic Needle filled with amazing fibers for needlework and embroidery. You’ll get a box full of special threads, mystery tool, accessory, and a little something extra. You’ll also get an access to a secret link to a special blog post that contains more information about that month’s box.

FYI – You can’t subscribe to this box (must purchase every month) and the window for the next month’s box may close before you even get your first box. I had figured that I’d wait to see the first box before continuing and missed out on the July box. Fortunately I was able to nab one off the waitlist. Just something to keep in mind!

This month’s box got its inspiration from July’s gemstone, Ruby. The link and password to the secret Broderi Box page is also indicated in the card.

I was excited by my first look in – I mostly craft holiday things, and this will be great for Christmas or even Valentine’s Day!

The site includes a lengthy curator’s letter, part of which I screenshotted here.  I actually think they’d probably sell more boxes if they at least put the item list for past boxes online but since they went to the extreme of password protecting everything, I’m only providing short excerpts.

The item list page is on the secret site. Complete item information is shown, along with links to each item. This is a really valuable

You can create this beautiful project with the materials from the box! I’m really excited about this one – it looks relatively simple to pull off but the result is intricate. The secret site contained multiple finishing ideas – and a big thanks from me! I get lost in the finishing stage for sure – how many FO’s do you have in your to be framed/mounted/whatever box? GUILTY!!! Anyways  Nordic Needle has a nice freely available stitch dictionary if you want to try your hand at some new stitches too!

The box also came with a members-only coupon. SERIOUSLY 50% OFF ONE ITEM! Yes, I’m shouting, this is an amazing coupon code! Happy birthday month indeed! Ya think they’d let me use it on DMC’s Golden Skein? I was thinking about using it on a giant set of Annie’s thread keepers. Anyways – this has a huge value to me!

Broderi Box July 2016 review

Everything in my July box! Love all the different variegations and shades of red!

Broderi Box July 2016 (2)

Bella Lusso Christmas Red #575 Wool ($2.50) 100% merino wool – so soft! It’s a great tapestry fiber and super pretty!

Broderi Box July 2016 (3)

Watercolours Cardinal #219 ($4.10) Watercolours are hand-painted fibers with a nice long staple to resist fraying. I love the variegations in this fiber and the weight is especially nice for counted work!

Broderi Box July 2016 (4)

Classic Colorworks Ribbon Red ($2.40) I had no idea that Crescent Colours changed the name. So out of the loop! This is hand dyed DMC so I don’t have to be too creative to use it! I keep my specialty fibers sorted as “like DMC” and “not like DMC.”

Au Ver A Soie Brick Red Medium Light #2923 Floss ($4.30) Silk is obviously perfect for all needlework! This silk in particular is extremely high quality, soft, and glossy.

Sulky Petites Solid Christmas Red #1147 ($1.69) I didn’t know that this weight (12 wt) was equivalent to 2 strands of floss! This goes in the “like DMC” area!

Mill Hill Glass Treasure Large Channeled Ruby Heart # 2217 ($1.50) These are so perfect for a cutesy project! I’ll tuck them away for wintry Valentine’s projects!

Entice Ruby Slippers E222 Sparkling Needlepoint Braid ($2.50) I love the name! Ruby Slippers! I’m going to have to find a Wizard of Oz pattern for this one, because it’s glittering and perfect – and my daughter loves the book intensely! It will make the perfect gift! Don’t you love when a fiber inspires a project?!

Finally, a laying tool was the “tool” in this month’s box! I mostly cross stitch and don’t use a laying tool, but it’s a necessary item for me when doing an intricate stitch or any “flat” stitches to get my fibers to lay right. Super handy! It’s pretty similar to this one just added to the catalog.

Another great box in this series – and the total value was about $22. The box itself is $24.99 + 3.99 shipping (which you always pay with a needlework shop!), but there is definitely added value in the fiber descriptions and handy hints – and in that giant coupon code!

Have you tried Broderi Box? What are you stitching this month? I have about one night left in Spooked! Part One and then I’m switching to another project, which I haven’t decided on yet (perhaps a more traditional project!). I did totally buy the August box. I couldn’t resist glow in the dark thread.

I actually have this box – and came across it recently when cleaning out my stash room for a reno. BUT… I didn’t get to going to the web site to get the instructions . and now I can’t seem to find it.. can you help ? I can give you the secret password if you need it.. I see the photo of the finished work, but would love to get the diagram and stitch the piece. Thanks, Joan
