How to Be a Redhead Subscription Box is the brainstorm of two sisters, Adrienne and Stephanie Vendetti. The box is to help redheads “to feel confident, look amazing and rock their beauty.” The products are tested for 10 days before being considered for the box. The products range from samples to full-size. It ships the first week of the month.
I had no clue what to expect. One thing is for sure. The emphasis is on RED!
I can’t tell much from the box. I do see a hair product.
The May theme is “Strong & Sassy!” The front side of the information card provides a list of items, description, and value. The back side has a curator letter and social media tags.
That is a lot of items for a box that is under $20.00! There is a variety of items ranging from sample size to full-size.
I am a redhead “by choice” and had used color shampoos to keep my red looking fresh when I was younger. The Zotos Quantum Riveting Reds Shampoo ($9.29) brightens up red hair and keeps it from fading. It did leak a bit in the box which the squiggles soaked up most of it. The formula deposits a red color on your hair that adds to the redness of your depending on how often you use the shampoo. I wish I could use it because the one I used to use worked great in refreshing my color (this one has SLS so I’ll skip it).
I noticed that red hair looks gorgeous when it has a shine to it. The Neuma Finishing Polish ($22.12) gives redheads that perfect finish by controlling frizz and giving it shine. It is free of parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances and more. It is vegan and is cruelty-free. The finishing polish can be used on wet or dry hair. I noticed no scent. I did have an issue where the top detached from the tube making it impossible to pump. I wasn’t able to shake it out. I pulled the product out with a toothpick.
The Karin Herzog Sample Pack ($10.00) is a cosmetic line based on active oxygen. The product line is paraben-free, cruelty-free and gluten-free. It is also vegan-friendly. It is safe for regular, combination, and sensitive skin. It fights against aging, blemishes and acne.
The Vita-A-Kombe 1 has 1% oxygen, vitamin A, and vitamin E. It is recommended that a brush is used to apply the product, so the fingers do not absorb the active ingredients. It is applied after cleansing the face. It is also preservative-free.
The Mild Scrub uses premium grounded white marble powder. It is gentle to the skin. Water or a cleansing milk can be mixed with it if needed. It only needs to be on the face for 30-45 seconds making it easy to work into a skin routine 3-4 times a week.
The Vitamin H seals it all in as a moisturizer. It has a vitamin B complex and rosewood essential oil. It is also recommended for rosacea and psoriasis.
The samples interest me. I need to do more research to see if the ingredients will agitate my rosacea. I am very curious about the Vitamin H.
The Urban Deer Dry Shampoo in Red ($5.00) may be the first dry shampoo that I will consider trying.
This ingredient-conscious girl approves of the ingredients! The smell is pleasant! I will be bringing it to the farm for those days when my hair feels icky from working outside in the heat.
May is Melanoma Awareness Month. Dan Gosling, a professional trumpet player, created the ChopSaver Lip Balm with SPF 15 ($3.85). It contains 10 certified organic ingredients along with sunscreen. I will be using this!
The made-in-Brazil Bodipure Keratin Waterless All-in-One-Hand Treatment ($2.31) prepares nails for a beautiful manicure by softening cuticles, strengthening the nails and moisturizing the skin. It sounds wonderful. I will use it sometime before Mother’s Day!
I always joke to my husband that I burn and never tan. The Caribbean Breeze Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 ($2.99) is the perfect size for your purse. It is made in the USA and not tested on animals.
The Yogi Tea Sampler ($2.00) was in a Yogi branded envelope. I like the Yogi Tea Brand and will use the teas.
The Rawxies Chocolate Brownie ($2.00) is a Mother’s day Treat. I thought it was a thoughtful inclusion. It is free of gluten, soy, and dairy. It has a chocolate brownie taste that my husband could not resist. He ate the whole treat without sharing! The shampoo did leak a little on the upper right hand side of the wrapper.
This box is my first How to be a Redhead Box. I can see the essence of the box and how it relates to redheads. I am slightly disappointed with the difficulties I experienced with the hair products. I will be using almost all of the items and chosen not to contact How to be a Redhead regarding the shampoo because of my SLS allergy.
The variety is there from the all important hair care (of course) to skin care. The tea and brownie were a nice touch. I calculated a value of almost $60.00 which is excellent for a box that is $18.98 per month. It also had eight items and a bonus item! The box ships early in the month breaking up the wait for most boxes to ship. I am anticipating next month’s box.

Careful about that shine product (full of silicones) if you don’t use sulfate shampoo. Those silicones will cause build up that can only be removed by sulfates. I’m disappointed How to Be a Redhead talks about the benefits of sulfate- and silicone-free products, but doesn’t follow through with the products they actually include in the box. Influence of their sponsors?
Michelle, thank you for letting us know. I did not use the product because it was impossible to get out of the box. I always forget to check for silicones. Good points for me to think about for whenever I review the box again.
