unboxing

I am always excited to see my Gwynnie Bee box in the mail. It has been a great way for me to keep my work wardrobe interesting.  There are so many dress options! That being said, the month I prioritized some of the more casual items – less work travel means I can wear jeans more!

sneak peek

Gwynnie Bee is a clothing rental subscription service. My body shape makes me a perfect candidate, as they specialize in sizes 10-32, and I am a 14-16.  When I started I added about 25 items to my closet (it’s a lot like creating a Netflix queue back when DVD subscriptions were their main business model, except there is no specific order) and they sent me the first three that were available. They recently added a feature that lets you prioritize items, so I have some control over which items are more likely to show up. Then, when I return items they send more!

I really like that I have a lot of control – I pick the specific items that are in my closet.  I can go outside my comfort zone if I feel like it, or I can stay well within it. Overall, I put several items that would be a stretch for me in my closet, but also put plenty of items I think I will like so that any given shipment is likely to have something in it that I will wear.

James Jeans MOTO CURVY JEAN IN BAROQUE – Sizes 14 and 16

I was excited to see jeans show up, and even more excited to see that both sizes came together.  I was unsure which would fit me better, so I had put both the 14 and the 16 in my closet.  I put on the 16 first, since that is what I usually wear.  I thought they fit pretty well.  Then on a whim I tried the 14’s and was surprised that they may actually fit better.

I really like the color – a nice inky blue. The stretch makes them pretty forgiving. I am not a huge fan of the detail around the knees – perhaps a little too “moto” for me – but I am definitely willing to give it a try. I like how Gwynnie Bee lets me try on different styles in real life, not just a dressing room.

IGIGI Elle Sheathe Dress in Lattice Noir (Size 14)

Igigi ELLE SHEATH DRESS IN LATTICE NOIR

I like everything about this dress, except the length. It is a nice medium weight fabric – substantial but not heavy. It has some stretch, but not as much as a jersey. but it is too short for my day to day work. Maaaayybeee if I did the tights and boots thing, but even then it just doesn’t feel age appropriate. But it really is a perfectly nice dress for a slightly shorter person (I am 5’10”).

I had prioritized this sweater a while back when it was still chilly out (though, to be fair, it was quite cold when I was in Boston the first week of May!). Alas, it showed up a bit too late in the season.  But I pretty much love everything about this – the color, the length, the style, and the sweater weight. the only thing I don’t love that goofy smile and crazy eyes look I have on my face – I clearly trust the boy to take good photos and didn’t check this one before moving on. Fail.

This was a good reminder that it is time to update my closet for this season!  One of the awesome things about Gwynnie Bee is you can change your priorities and take items in and out of your closet easily.  There is an “On Hold” section of the closet for items you like but don’t want to be considered in your next shipment.  Time to move the sweaters over there!
