IMG_3422My Texas Market is a monthly subscription that sends a curated collection of small batch artisanal goods produced in Texas to your home. I was so excited to receive this box! As someone who moved to Texas a few years ago, I have come to believe that all things are better in Texas, and what better way to prove it than to sample some local fare?

My box arrived with a friendly hand-written note thanking me for supporting local Texas businesses. IMG_3427

The theme this month was Springtime in Texas. The box arrived with beautiful packaging, including tissue paper with a lovely leaf motif that I immediately reused to wrap a birthday gift for my son’s best friend.

After just getting back from a much needed vacation, I was delighted to come home to springtime in Texas and a box from My Texas Market that celebrates it!

I love how My Texas Market sources small batch, artisan goods from farmers’ markets and local Texas businesses each month and gives 10% of their profits to the Houston Food Bank!

Springtime in Texas is very special. What sets it apart from springtime in other southern states is the myriad wildflowers that blossom along the roadways throughout the state. For the roughly two weeks in early spring when the bluebonnets bloom, roadways are blanketed in a beautiful purple color. Cars pull off to the side of the road so families can photograph their children sitting among the flowers. It’s a magical sight. As spring continues and the bluebonnets give way to the firewheels and thistles, the sight is no less spectacular.

This handmade Texas Bluebonnet soap from kuhdoo ($6) celebrates spring with its fabulous floral scent. Made from goat’s milk, shea butter, avocado oil and coconut oil, it moisturizes as it bathes skin in a springtime floral feast. For those unfamiliar with bluebonnets, here’s a picture of some I took while on a hike at Canyon of the Eagles a few weeks ago.

Thanks in no small part to Lady Bird Johnson, bluebonnets are an ubiquitous sight around Austin in early spring, and as such, make a great name for a springtime floral scent.

IMG_3438We eat a lot of dried strawberries in my house, but none quite as tasty as Brenham Kitchens Dried Strawberries ($10). Because of the added sugar, these have more of a candy consistency than most. They are delicious!

Mind Your Own Beeswax’s medium honeycomb candle ($8) looks exactly like a candle I received for Christmas from my cousin when I was in high school. I loved the candle then, and I love this one now! My kids were entranced watching the wax melt as I burned it for them to see.

As an added bonus, the makers of the candle claim that burning the candle will help rid your air of impurities. Clearly I need to get more of these!

IMG_3432Terra Verde’s Blackberry Balsamic Vinegar (price unknown; $16.99 for 250 ml) is produced in Dripping Springs, TX from balsamic vinegar from Italy. Texas Hill Country Olive Company recommends pairing it with fruit, yogurt, a salad, or as a glaze for meat. I can’t wait to try this! I’ve been eyeing Texas Hill Country Olive Company’s products for some time, and I’m thrilled I get to try one of them with this box. Things have been a whirlwind since I got back to town, and I haven’t had a chance yet to go shopping. When I do, I’ll pick up some Pure Luck goat cheese from Dripping Springs and add it to a salad. I’ll throw in some candied pecans and apples and use this balsamic to make a dressing. I can’t wait!

IMG_3444Otavia’s Strawberry Body Scrub ($16) is handmade in Austin, Texas. It smells of oil and fresh strawberries. Made with real strawberries, it’s fun to see the little pieces of berry float around in the tub after you rinse it off. After using this scrub, my skin felt amazing. It hasn’t felt that soft and supple in some time. I can’t wait to use this again.

I love that they included a coupon code with the box so that I can get a discount on Otavea reorders.

This was my second month receiving My Texas Market, and I couldn’t have been more pleased with its contents! Texas has so many great makers, and I think the individuals behind this box did a great job selecting different artisan products from different parts of the state. I can’t wait to see what they send next month!
