Meal Time Box is bi-weekly (or monthly, at your option) subscription box that delivers healthy, fresh prepared meals ready to heat and eat.
The meals are made of real, cooked food, so they are perishable and need to be kept in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days, or in the freezer if they are to be eaten later.
The box has simple heating instructions: you heat the meals in the microwave for 2-4 minutes, let sit for another minute, then eat. You can thaw them — the preferred method — or heat straight from the freezer.
The food is packed with a large ice pack in an insulated bag to keep it cold en route to us.
The food was stacked so neatly — it looked like they took great pains to keep the food looking neat and tasty.
Our pack contained two meals each of five meals. Each had a protein (meat or fish), some veggies, and a nice starch or grain.
The info sheet describing the meals and giving heating instructions. The meals taste just like their descriptions suggest — you can taste everything listed, and they are lightly seasoned. There doesn’t seem to be anything in the dishes that is not listed, other than salt, pepper, and maybe a dash of oil.
Spicy Meatloaf: This dish features a beef and turkey meatloaf with a gently spicy sauce and almond topping. It’s accompanied by green beans, corn, and roasted potato slabs.
The use of turkey with the beef made for a firmer and lighter meatloaf. This was great for keeping the potatoes from becoming soggy, but the dish would’ve benefitted from a bit more sauce, which wasn’t very spicy but provided a touch of heat. The Almond topping was a nice touch.
Chicken & Shallots and Pesto Chicken.
Whole braised shallots were an impressive touch to the dish. A very mild dish, apart from the hefty shallots. The chicken leg had excellent flavor and was well seasoned — the rice had a nice bit of firmness to it, even reheated.
Pesto Chicken: This dish had wonderful earthy flavor. I like the spinach and pesto combo and felt it complemented the quinoa very well. The quinoa was a little soft in this dish. The chicken thigh was very flavorful and super-moist. I loved that the tomato and cheese topping remained intact during heating and plating.
Scallop Pasta and Baked Penne.
Scallop Pasta: The scallops were amazingly tender, and the garlic sauce was absolutely delicious — I could have gobbled two of these! The asparagus was pretty petite, and it was a bit soft, but the noodles were a perfect just-past-al-dente.
Baked Penne: Beautiful! This lasagna-esque penne dish had a lovely sauce with big chunks of hamburger and fresh basil. We loved it, and it came in huge servings.
I was impressed by the great flavor of the sauce — we could taste the wine in it!
We really enjoyed all the meals. It was real food, prepared nicely, and super-easy to reheat. Heated from frozen, my dishes needed an extra minute and half to get nice and hot. All the dishes and component ingredients fared well with both freezing and reheating. Even the meat and seafood components were still tender after heating. The flavors were also very great — everything was seasoned gently and had a mild flavor, making them suitable for a wide range of palates. The meals weren’t overly salted, either. The servings were plentiful, too — we were able to split each of the meals into two modest, but satisfying meals. We loved that you didn’t have to add anything to the meals.
This subscription would be perfect for busy singles or couples, newly independent twenty-somethings just starting to find their way around a kitchen, or especially older singles or widowers who might not otherwise bother with a hot meal every day.

All my meals are totally thawed out and some of them aren’t even cold when they arrive. The meals are good but I can’t eat them all before they go bad so it’s a waste of money and food. great idea and I don’t even want to say poor execution because I don’t think it’s possible without some serious packaging which is too expensive to be realistic.
This box looks great on busy nights when we get home late. I was all set to order. Then I noticed that they don’t ship to Texas. Bummer. I’ve subscribed to Home Chef due to your reviews and both my husband and I have been very happy with the quality. Your food box reviews are always great. Thank you.
I will make sure to post when they do expand their delivery area. I’m certain that they are planning on it. Texas is so big but the last to get a lot of the meal boxes because it’s an in betweener 🙁
