My Pretend Place Dress-Up Subscription Box Review & Coupon – Veterinarian Box!

My Pretend Place is a quarterly themed pretend play and dress up subscription box for children aged 3-6. The quarterly dress-up kit comes in a big box, with everything tucked safely inside.

Each kit has an envelope containing some bonus decorations and a handle for transforming the box into a reusable suitcase in line with the quarter’s theme.  This makes a nice storage container for the costume if you don’t have an established dress up closet.

We chose the veterinarian kit for this quarter.  Along with paper wrapper, the costume itself was protected by its original plastic commercial packaging. You can purchase the boxes individually and see the other themes here.

The box contains a letter to your child setting the scene.  This letter was from Dr. Elie Fant, the Director of the MPP Veterinarian School.  She invites your child to join the program and learn all about taking care of animals!

The dress-up item is a Veterinarian Role Play Set from Melissa & Doug.  It includes a vet’s outfit, complete with a scrubs top and bonnet, a mask, stethoscope, syringe, thermometer, and bandage — even a little stuffed puppy!

My son loved the vet outfit!  My dog, not so much…

The box includes a book entitled, “Let’s Meet a Veterinarian” that walks through the daily life of real vets.

The book has a whimsically-styled illustrations and a light and easy storyline.  Captions contain factual information on the role a vet plays in keeping our animal friends healthy, so the book is both a breezy fiction story about a fieldtrip to the vets, or as an informative, non-fiction exploration of the job.

A cool set of X-rays were included, too.  Each had a full-color photograph of an animal, along with an X-ray-style film that could be viewed alone or overlaid on it.

The X-rays were a really cool touch, adding a diagnostic dimension to the normal “time to get a shot” mode of play my kids like.

The box always includes a fun project or two.  One of the projects was making a chalkboard clipboard, complete with animal stickers to guide your check up.

The second project was making a veterinarian tote bag.  The kit came with a paper-cloth bag, crayon, and stamps with inkpad.

He absolutely loved making both of these projects and immediately insisted on storing his kit in the bag!

And then he decorated it with the stickers!

The Melissa & Doug outfits are well-constructed and easy to get in and out of.  This kit had several cool accessories that the kids will use even when they don’t get on the full outfit.  We keep all the outfits for later use, and the kids are always getting them out to play with.  The monthly mailings from My Pretend Place remind the kids to play with their costumes throughout the quarter, but we find that they are fun long beyond that.
