November’s OwlCrate theme was Myths and Legends! Owl Crate is a monthly subscription books and bookish items box. Each OwlCrate will contain one new Young Adult novel, as well as 3-5 other bookish items all matched to a magical monthly theme.
Do you have a favorite myth/legend/fairytale?
The information card has brief information about each item. I loved the card this month, set up to look like a nice ancient tome. I totally failed at the rune translation (and I looked up viking, celtic, and tolkien!). Let me know if you figure it out.
The bottom of the box hoots “enjoy your adventure!”
Everything in the November OwlCrate!
My Clockwork Castle Mermaid Pocket Mirror (~$4.5) Everyone loves a good mermaid accessory! It would have been even more fabulous if it were iridescent, but I really loved the watercolor mermaid scales on this mirror and thought it was quite pretty.
The Colorful Geek Camp Half-Blood Wristband ($5) Each size has the pegasus and the font is that traditional summer camp font that is instantly recognizable! Their shop also sells “Camp Jupiter” bracelets – perfect for Percy Jackson fans! This is definitely a younger item than me, but that’s ok, because it’s a young adult fiction subscription box.
The Geeky Cauldron Castle Locket Necklace ($12) This is really fun and it has a nice magnet to keep the castle doors closed while you’re wearing it.
I can’t believe that any person wouldn’t have a fandom that didn’t include a castle!
The castle itself has great detail, from castle towers to barred doors and a nice clock on it.
Soundless by Richelle Mead ($14.02) plus Bookmark and Temporary Tattoos (from Vampire Academy)
For as long as Fei can remember, there has been no sound in her village, where rocky terrain and frequent avalanches prevent residents from self-sustaining. Fei and her people are at the mercy of a zipline that carries food up the treacherous cliffs from Beiguo, a mysterious faraway kingdom.
When villagers begin to lose their sight, deliveries from the zipline shrink and many go hungry. Fei’s home, the people she loves, and her entire existence is plunged into crisis, under threat of darkness and starvation.
But soon Fei is awoken in the night by a searing noise, and sound becomes her weapon.
Richelle Mead takes readers on a triumphant journey from the peak of Fei’s jagged mountain village to the valley of Beiguo, where a startling truth and an unlikely romance will change her life forever….
You can read the first three chapters right on Amazon. The description of this Chinese-folklore based young adult novel was pretty gripping! The age for this book was 12+ but even old ladies love a good quick read. One of the most appealing things about this subscription is that it’s suitable for such a wide age range and is book focused.
Adagio Teas Red Riding Hood Storytime Tea & Tin ($9) “A scarlet tea blend to keep the hungry wolf at bay on your journey over the river and through the woods.” This tea is a blend of red rooibos, apples, cinnamon, strawberries, cranberries, cocoa nibs, strawberry cranberry and cinnamon flavors, and red safflowers. The steeping instructions are on the bottom of the super cute collectible tin and the tea itself is caffeine free.
This tea smells absolutely delicious. I’m not a tea drinker but I may put some on the stove to steep because I think it will smell great. I loved how it came in little pre-packaged sachets. My daughter and husband drink tea so it won’t go un-drunk!
Included in the box were some coupons for the various shops involved!
I calculated a total value of about $44.50 for the November OwlCrate, which was pretty great. I really loved the book selection and for the most part the remainder of the items were please-everyone goes with any fandom type of items.

Great box. We are currently listening to the Percy Jackson books in the car and N is loving them. I also agree that everyone needs a castle.
