Hello Fresh recently redesigned their menu cards, and the instructions are super easy to follow. It has nice illustrations, is clearly written, and even lets you know nutrition info, prep time, and which recipes are best to make first to optimize freshness of perishables. Hello Fresh sends all the sauces, bouillon and such in individual serving packets or in off-the-shelf brand name packaging; although it means a little more packaging, they survive shipping better than the plastic cups used by Plated.
Coriander & Cumin-Crusted Chicken with Israeli Couscous Salad, Roasted Zucchini, and Caramelized Lemon. 535 cal, 35 mins, level 2.
The preparation was a little fussy on this dish, with the caramelizing of lemons and toasting and crushing of spices preceding the main preparation. The result was worth it — the toasting brought out the intense flavor of the cumin seeds. The couscous salad was a creamy delight, as the warm roasted zucchini melted the feta into a rich, creamy coating. Even our baby loved it!
Vietnamese Beef Stir-Fry with Basil, Coconut Rice, and Crispy Green Beans. 664 cal, 30 mins, level 1.
This simple larb has great flavors and textures. Not as spicy as I had expected, the natural sweetness of the bell pepper and the great flavor or the basil really come to the fore. Paired with roasted beans and tasty coconut rice.
Cod Cioppino in Tomato Stew with Toasted Baguette. 456 cal, 45 mins, level 2.
The crostini were a fun little touch, and the flavor was so delicious and probably much better than a white loaf. The cherry tomatoes made a sweet and bright sauce, with the skins and flesh making a much nicer textural element than regular stewed tomatoes. The dish was bright and sweet, and the cod made it more approachable than a traditional seafood mix.
Here are the selections for next week! Meal choices end Wednesdays at midnight. Also, Hello Fresh seems to have revamped their interface a bit – it’s cleaner and easier to access the upcoming recipes!
You can click on each dish and get the recipe information, including calories, ingredients, and difficulty levels. We like having this info available beforehand, as it allows us to avoid meals that we think are too involved or require to much time for our schedule that week. Although the names of the dishes are fairly lengthy and descriptive, it is also nice to have the ingredient list to get a fuller picture of the dish.
