This is the July Mini Vegan box.
The contents of the box. I thought six food items was a pretty good number for a “mini” box.
Laiki Red Rice Crackers: made with the bare minimum of ingredients, these puffy crackers rely on the natural taste of the rice to impart a hearty flavor. Goes well with hummus.
PaleoLife Primal Cocoa-Nut bar: this paleo-compliant bar boasts a big cocoa flavor, but it has enough sweetness to make a balanced and enjoyable bar. I really liked this bar, and the texture was a nice change of pace from typical paleo bars, as it was drier and slightly crumbly, not a tough, gooey mess, though a bit oily.
Spiced & Infused Popcorn with Bombay Seasoning: This is the second rebranding of this product of which I am aware. It was formerly known as Mumbai Masala, then Cobra Corn. It is now known as “Spiced & Infused”. Perhaps they are cultivating a more upscale image for sale in healthfood stores — as far as I can tell, the recipe has not changed. The corn is well-popped, and the seasoning is fantastic. It is savory and packs a lot of flavor, but it is not “curry” flavored — it is bright and not too spicy to enjoy. Worth a try, even if you are not a big fan of Indian food. The packaging notes that it contains turmeric (presumably because of the anti-inflammatory and other health benefits), but the corn is not burdened with the musty flavor sometimes resulting from too much turmeric. This is a great product, and I hope the rebranding is a sign that they are expanding their distribution.
Nourish Snacks Chili’n in the Corn’r: ridiculous name, great snack. The lime and chili seasoning is tasty and does not suffer from the artificial let’s-add-citric-acid-and-call-it-lime flavor that seems to be part of the chili-lime canon. The best surprise was the texture — the kernels are crunchy and light, and none were tooth-creakingly hard. I was able to crunch my way through the pack with ease.
Matt’s Munchies Banana Coconut: Packaged like fruit leather hits on a long strip of parchment, these tasty patches went over really well with Brandy. They are tasty and naturally sweet. The bits of coconut provided a great bit of texture and flavor, as well.
RuckPack Combat Nutrition: The name of the flavor cracks me up: “Strawberry Assault”. This sizable energy shot packs a wallop of B vitamins, as well as Beta Alanine, A-GPC, Theanine, Taurine, and CoQ10. The blast of caffeine is derived from Green tea.
Salted subscription: This innovative program grants access to a library of cooking classes featuring some of the nation’s top chefs. Each episode is in full HD, and they even have a Chef Hotline for cooking help. The box includes a 3 month subscription ($30 in value)!
I do want to note that we receive some complaints in the comments about this subscription with cancellation – it can be a bit hard to cancel, so we suggest using a prepaid credit card. However, we really like the size of this mini discovery box – $8.99 a month! Since we last reviewed a box they really changed the sizes of everything.
