This is pretty exciting Five Four Club has started doing some designer collaborations – I really hope to see more of them. For July, Five Four Club collaborated with designer Mark McNairy for designs exclusive to the subscription. Five Four Club is a men’s clothing monthly subscription club – sign up, pick a style profile and your sizes, and get clothes every month. My style profile is a “mix.” This subscription ships at the end of the month, and nearly always arrives in the first few days of the next month – but it arrived in July this time! Until recently Five Four Club was a retail brand, but now you must be a member in order to purchase clothes in their shop.
The three items in the box were warm weather appropriate casual wear.

Calumet T-Shirt ($35): The bold colors and design of the shirt evoke some USSR “nostalgia,” ironic or otherwise. The large design on the front is complemented by the smaller emblem appearing on the upper center of the back of the shirt (pictured above). The “TCMFB” logo is a common McNairy refrain. If you are wondering what it stands for, imagine Samuel L. Jackson stating Elvis’ “taking care of business” mantra, complete with a compound expletive. The fit of the shirt is pretty traditional.
Bayard Khaki Shorts ($60): featuring a teal McNairy lightning bolt, these khakis have a sporty feel to them. The integrated belt has a plastic clip. In an interesting spin on the cargo short, the left has a side-access pocket with a hidden zipper. The pocket is large enough to hold a large smartphone, keeping it away from your keys and allowing you to lounge more comfortably.

The pocket liners have a McNairy classic duck pattern.
Perry Camp Shirt ($55): This shirt has a really tailored look to it, with a slightly slimmer ribcage and shoulder seams that are keep relatively high on the arm. The fabric is light enough for summer wear. The triple-tone blue manages to conjure three nice shades of blue in a single shirt.
Top rear interior has the same duck lining as the khakis.
The front pocket features a combo lightning bolt and TCMFB insignia.
The clothing all has the Five Four black and white striped tag. I noticed this tag started appearing a few months back, and now it is on all the clothing, even T-shirts. I’ve been a Five Four Club subscriber for quite a while, and I like the direction the brand is heading. They’ve reined in the street-oriented styling that once dominated, and the more sanitized styling is now beginning to flirt with contributions from designers, becoming edgier in an upscale way. The consistent use of the tag may signal that the new styling attitude has cohered — if so, I see really great things ahead.
