Kidable Adventures Little Thinker Box is a preschool subscription box for ages 3-6. The Little Thinker Box includes four components: Read, Create, Explore, and Learn. The Learn component is divided into three different levels: Head Start, PreK, and Kindergarten. Choose the level that’s right for your child!
The theme for the month is Baker!
All the actual instructions plus the parental guidance is included, along with all the supplies! The Read, Create, Explore, and Learn format is actually new for this month, and is based on customer and expert feedback. We take the packs apart for photos, but each is packaged separately, which is great for spreading this box out over your month.
Read: This month’s selection was Flat Stanley and the Very Big Cookie. The booklet contained lots of information and guidance on getting the most of the story. Reading is not just reading – you have to ask lots of questions, get your child to retell the story, etc. I find guides like this helpful.
Create: The box contained 3 create activities – a cake to decorate, an apron to decorate, and a flat stanley giant kid cookie, just like the book!
Tracing this was loads of fun!
Look, I have 4 children now! In all seriousness the kids had a lot of fun doing this, and the activity helps reinforce the story, as well as reading comprehension. When we re-read the book, E talked excitedly about his kid cookie!
Cake Art. This activity helped reinforce shapes and colors. It included magnets for the back to hang on your fridge.
Chef’s Apron – This activity was in the create pack, and you can see the finished product below. He adored making it and was super proud!
Explore: This pack came with tons of great items, including a Handstand Kids Chef’s Hat, a rolling pin, two cookie cutters, and play-dough.
The included items are meant to engage your child through pretend play with the theme. The playdough provided a great sensory experience too.
I think you can tell how excited this kid is! The item on the bottom is a chocolate chip cookie. Our daughter helpfully labeled it and dad wrote “Cookie Monster” on the apron for him. E is super excited!
The booklet guided us through the activities of making shapes until there was no dough left, guessing at what shape the animal cookie cutter would produce, etc. The activities included higher order thinking like estimation.
Learn: This is the more paper-based learning items. Many of the items in the box focused on motor skills (like removing the sticker backing), but this especially, because your child needs to operate the paper clips. This is a great skill to reinforce!
The cards included counting, letter and number recognition, and more!
Finally, the new box includes a Mom Gift! This month’s was from Ginger Bliss Bath Co. – Honey Almond and Garden Spa Body Scrubbing Sugar Cube Hearts!
We loved this box and all the updates! The new format is solidly organized, the mom gift is a sweet touch, and most importantly my preschooler was engaged and thinking the whole time we were doing the activities. I always like to note – reviewers do everything at once, because we have to – but this box is designed to provide activities over the course of the month. I think this subscription is inventive and fun and I’m excited to see future months!
