universal yums

Universal Yums is a monthly international snack subscription box. Every month you’ll take a trip to a new country and munch on brand new snacks. Yum Yum! There are two sizes of box, the Yum ($13) and the Yum Yum ($25). This is the Yum Yum box, and this subscription is a really solid subscription that shines each and every month. It’s definitely a whole-family favorite.

I love the tissue paper set up to look like the country of the month’s flag.

IMG_3639 The information card has descriptions of all the snacks, plus they have translated ingredients on their site. There’s also a clue to next month’s box – which is Mexico!

All the Yums in the May Yum Yum box.

Elite Pesek Zman Chocolate Bar – It seems to me like absolutely everyone loves the combination of chocolate and hazelnuts, which isn’t surprising, because it’s delicious. This is a hazelnut cream filled wafer bar enrobed in chocolate. So good!

Elite Milk Chocolate with Popping Candies – Blew two little minds with the chocolate with popping candies inside. One of my favorite bars is the Chuao Firecracker, which adds chipotle, so it was awesome to be able to share this mouth experience with my little ones.

You can see their brains just trying to puzzle that one out!

Kif Kef Chocolate Bar – So delicious and way better than Kit Kat. American mass-produced chocolate is so low quality now that I don’t bother eating it. This was chocolately and less sugary.

Elite Hazelnut Chocolate Bar – Supposed to be like a Snickers but with hazelnuts, my husband said it was more like a Mounds!

Toffee Fruit Chews

Pinuki Cola Dragees – These are like Cola-flavored Mentos! The flavor was excellent and I love the texture of Mentos, so it was a great candy!

Achva Marble Sesame Halva – Halvah is a traditional middle eastern sweet and the Israeli version is tahini/sesame-based. A bit dry and crumbly, we liked the chocolate swirl. Very traditional!

Bissli Falafel Snacks & Bissli Smokey Snacks: We enjoyed both of these, but especially the Felafel snacks, which taste just like a felafel sandwich, which is somewhat mindblowing because they don’t have any chickpeas! The Smokey ones weren’t my fave, but my husband gobbled them.

Bamba Peanut Snacks & Bamba Peanut Snack with Hazelnut Cream Filling – I admit, I totally saved the Bamba Peanut Snacks for the baby! If you’ve read the recent UK study on feeding babies peanut snacks (none of ours have allergies BTW), they used Bamba snacks, or the German version of them. They are light and puffy and perfect for little baby hands.  The ones with the hazelnut cream were awesome – and the card says they developed these to solve the mess problem of dipping Bamba into Nutella. That sounds mighty indulgent in the first place, but I’m glad someone came up with it! Bamba is Israel’s most famous snack food. It’s a weird experience the first time you eat these, but they’re very addictive.

Mega Sesame Pretzel Sticks – These are covered with sesame seeds instead of salt! They have a great nutty finish and were a fun snack. I’m a pretzel dipper (I admit, I dip mine in ranch… Yes I said that). I would dip these in hummus or tahini maybe? Yum!

I loved getting a box of snacks from Israel. What a unique treat! As always, we love this subscription for the unique items and a concentrated snack introduction to a country!
