Japanese street food, steak, and Za-atar were just a few reasons this weeks Hello Fresh did not sit on the doorstep for long.  Hello Fresh is a meal kit subscription box where you’ll get the recipes and ingredients to make 3 meals for two (or 4) every week. Take $40 off your first box with coupon code 7UT7K8. Hello Fresh is a subscription, but you can pause your deliveries and choose alternate meals (at least for the Classic box). There’s also a vegetarian box available. This is a solid meal subscription box with easy and accessible recipes.

Hello Fresh recently redesigned their menu cards, and the instructions are super easy to follow.  It has nice illustrations, is clearly written, and even lets you know nutrition info, prep time, and which recipes are best to make first to optimize freshness of perishables.  Hello Fresh sends all the sauces, bouillon and such in individual serving packets or in off-the-shelf brand name packaging; although it means a little more packaging, they survive shipping better than the plastic cups used by Plated and others (and you can see that you are not getting food service condiments from a number 10 can).

Chicken Yakitori with Chuka Soba Stir-Fry:  the all-natural chicken cooked up super tender, and the addictive sweetness of the hoisin was the perfect complement to the spicy, tender noodles.

Steak Tagliata with Roasted Sweet Potato Wedges & Watercress Salad:  The watercress held up well to the tender, warm steak and tomato-balsamic reduction.  The Rosemary sweet potato wedges would complement any meat dish, but pair especially well with the tangy balsamic-drizzled steak.

Pistachio-Crusted Basa with Za’atar Brussels Sprouts & Dilled Couscous:  Though it sounds quite exotic, Za’atar is a fairly subtle spice blend that complements any roasted food.  The sweet, herby sumac really sets off the slightly bitter Brussels sprouts.  The whole plate acquires a nice nutty tone from the roasting of the sprouts, pistachios on the Basa, and the natural nuttiness of the couscous.

This weeks box had three very different and interesting flavor profiles.  To me, Hello Fresh is one of the easiest meal kit subscriptions out there. This is not a bad thing and it’s one of the reasons we enjoy it so much. Take $40 off your first box with coupon code 7UT7K8.
