urthbox april review

This is the April Small Classic box.

urthbox april 2015

I received 11 items in this box. This box is $29 per month, but you can bring the cost down substantially with a six month subscription ($17.33 per box for the small). This is a good value in my opinion!

Dakota Style Savory Bacon Sunflower Seeds ($1.99) Perfect for a salad, I ate all of these! They were so good. The bacon flavor was subtle and natural and I will repurchase these!

Fuel for Fire Fruit + Protein Fuel Pack ($3)

Coco Libre Organic Coconut Water With Pineapple ($1.80)

Just Great Stuff Superberry + Açai Bar ($2)

Well, I didn’t get to try any of these because other people claimed them. It’s more about what you think they taste like than me anyways! My daughter took the pouch for soccer practice, my husband claimed the water, and my son took the bar! All healthy with protein, electrolytes, and antioxidants.

Organico Go Nutty Cashews Sesame ($3.99) Coated in Agave and then rolled in sesame. These were really tasty!

LesserEvil Super 4 in Kale and Roasted Garlic ($1.05) Another snack claimed by my husband. He said they were very good and crunchier than the other sorts of snacks that look like these (veggie straws?).

Chic-a-Peas Baked Crunchy Chickpeas in Sweet BBQ ($1) I cannot find any mention of these online at all, which must mean they are a new flavor!

Nourish Snacks Mr. Popular ($2) One of my husband’s favorite things. He loves it when he gets these. He took both of these snacks. This box was exceptionally popular with my family!

The Yes Bar in Mocha Cayenne ($3) Gluten free, non-GMO, and spicy! I don’t like the taste of coffee, so… you guessed it! My husband ate this one. Don’t ask me why he didn’t write this review (it’s his birthday).

Terranut Pnut Punch ($0.80) Only three ingredients: cold-pressed peanuts, gluten free oats, and raw organic sugar cane. My husband basically gorged himself today on treats.

Pretzel Perfection Salted Caramel Clusters ($4?) I honestly can’t even believe he let me eat this. He felt guilty. These are so delicious – pretzel sticks covered with a plop of caramel, covered completely in delicious dark chocolate, and sprinkled with sea salt. I didn’t even realize until writing this that the pretzels were gluten-free! They have two more flavors – spicy cherry and ultimate (toffee, peanut butter chips, and butter toffee peanuts – are you kidding? I need these!). According to Amazon the value is around $8, which isn’t right. The manufacturer says they’re available at Target!

The value of this box was around $25 (which is why you should go for a longer subscription). Ultimately when my family loves the whole box that’s just as good as me trying everything, so I’d say this was a real success.

I do want to note that I have received quite a few complaints in the comments since June (when I last reviewed a box). These are due to the fact that UrthBox vouchers had been advertised as non-renewing, and they subsequently renewed many voucher-redeemers’ subscriptions (which is not OK). The last several voucher offers I have seen for this company have corrected this to note that boxes will be renewed automatically. I hope this resolves the problems. The actual items in the box are just as great as the last time I reviewed but I wanted to make note of this issue.

UrthBox has decent selections and good snacks that are sent, but there are an absurd amount of complaints about people not receiving packages and people trying to cancel a subscription they didn’t want but not being able to, so therefore being charged tons of money. The customer service is also god awful, which makes it a lot more difficult to inquire about an unreceived box or to try to cancel a subscription.

I met someone online who had received one of the gift subscriptions, but they made her put in her credit card information, then CHARGED HER $175, and then refused to credit her card because she never got an email confirmation for canceling the subscription. And it was supposed to be a gift.

It’s like the company is really good at charging your card on time but trash at actually shipping you the boxes you bought. And also really good at not answering customer service inquiries.

I definitely would suggest VeganCuts box over this one; a lot of vegans are into these box subscriptions, so a lot are into UrthBox, but VeganCuts is actually legit and their customer service is really good.

This looks like a tasty box! I am waiting for my 1st UrthBox. I subscribed mid-March w/ a $10 off code for the medium vegan box. All the recent reviews I’ve seen made me really want this box, but according to the FAQ’s on their page boxes are supposed to ship on the 15th. On the 17th I wrote a quick email to UrthBox just asking if they send a tracking # when it ships and they said I would get one. Um….it’s the 22nd and still nothing! I don’t want to be charged again for next month’s box if I haven’t even received April’s box yet…..

In my experience, they are one of those companies that creates shipping labels on time but don’t actually send out the box until a few days later. I don’t think I always got shipping notices, either.

I had an easier time contacting them when they were new. They got slower at responding after 5-6 months.

I don’t subscribe right now (I eat all the snacks at once when the boxes arrive, which is not so good for me!). But I’ve heard a lot more complaints lately than I did last year.
